22: What's your least favourite headcanon?

Oooooh there are a couple I could write about but I do think the one that grinds my gears the most is anything to do with prim’s reaping being rigged and it’s not as much because of the headcanon itself (people can have headcanons, whatever) as the fact that it’s representative of a type of thinking that has entered the actual series and, IMO, made it worse over time and that is IP/Franchise-brain thinking that prioritizes easter egging and legacy/lineage over theme and coherent world-building.

I loved the idea that we were getting prequels that explored the idea that the revolution didn’t start with the trilogy, that there were decades of organizing and resistance that caught fire at the right moment around the right symbol. I really don’t care for what we got in execution that is like Everything Is Connected, Snow’s Hate of Katniss Is Personal Because He Has a Past with Not Just Twleve But Her Relatives, Haymitch Watched Katniss Her Whole Life and Always Took a Personal Interest, Katniss Was Kind of Destined For This.

What I love about Katniss is that she is an ordinary person who knows it’s not right and yet is fairly terrified and reluctant to do anything about that, but her love for the people in her life, especially Prim and Peeta makes her take on revolution almost automatically. Because at the end of the day, love and people and connection is the most powerful motive for standing up for what’s right. And she is ordinary and random but her love for people has that power to inspire people because it’s something all of us can feel and be brave for.

And things like Prim being reaped to get to Katniss for whatever reason and all the canon stuff I said I just think undermine that idea that it could be anyone who is brave enough, which in a real world that evil has taken hold of, is something we need ordinary people to be inspired to believe.

So idk if that’s even a proper answer to the question but it’s something I feel real strongly about 😭😭😭
