DIA: DILEMMA! While many view this as the downfall of society, this type of engagement has ignited a renewed interest in art amongst the Gen Z & Millennial sets, increased museum attendance and given the industry a much-welcomed boost! But what if this data gets sold BEFORE an unexpected miscarriage? Amy Pittman tackles this modern-day conundrum in her poignant @nytimes #ModernLove essay, “The Internet Thinks I’m Still Pregnant." While Pittman found a certain comfort in the constant reminders of her miscarried baby’s milestones (“I liked that our baby remained a piece of living data to someone” she wrote), the article highlights the dire need for clear regulation of personal digital data. SOCIALISM! WATERGATE! HITLER’S T4 PROGRAM! Ever since it’s conception in 2010, the #AffordableCareAct commonly known as #Obamacare has seen no shortage of backlash (or inaccurate analogies!☝️) And yet, recent studies suggest that since its creation, Americans have become LESS LIKELY to have debt or postpone medical care because of cost. Coincidentally, they are MORE LIKELY to have a regular doctor and receive preventive health services like vaccines and cancer screenings - i.e. mandatory measures that people in most countries don’t think twice about! 🏩💉🌡💊 (Read more via @nytimes link in bio!) PRINCESS PROBLEMS! ❌👸❌ And not the spoiled brat kind. A recent study shows that both girls AND boys who engage in Disney Princess culture are more susceptible to adopting gender stereotypes. In girls, this can pose potential future limitations i.e striving for stereotypical "feminine" behavior, avoiding essential tomboyish activities, and feeling like they don’t have the same opportunities as boys. 🙅 Surprisingly, the same study shows that boys benefit greatly from interacting with the Cinderellas and Snow Whites of the fantasy world, as they offer a much-needed counterbalance to traditional hyper-masculine activities, contributing to an increase in androgyny that can help them throughout their lives! 🙇 Conclusion? THE TORCH IS LIT! 🔥 After weathering a 95-day journey on Brazilian soil (accompanied by a dream team of Victoria's Secret Guardian Angels!), the blazing symbol of SPIRIT, KNOWLEDGE, and LIFE arrived at the #2016SummerOlympics in Rio! Despite the tumultuous preparation and comparatively low budget, Friday night's opening ceremony reminded the world that that nobody celebrates LIFE better than Brazilians! 🎉 Not only did the 4-hour festivity offer a glorious celebration of Brazilian culture, it also warmed our hearts ❤️ with the welcoming of the #RefugeeOlympicTeam during the #ParadeofNations! This is a true testament to the Olympics’ original ethos of “building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of FRIENDSHIP, SOLIDARITY and FAIR PLAY.” In a time of chaos, this is the exact dose of unity and love that we are all craving. CAVIAR CONUNDRUM! 🐟🤔 In past decades, our collective love for this oligarch-worthy delicacy has led to massive overfishing 🎣 dwindling the sturgeon supply in the Black and Caspian Seas and leading to a US ban on #belugacaviar. As a result, California’s caviar business has flourished - but now it looks like the white sturgeon of the Pacific Ocean aren't safe either! 🙀 Earlier this year, a sturgeon poaching scheme was discovered in a Sacramento basement ❌🏠❌ pointing to a domestic caviar black market that puts the future of the species at risk. (Keep in mind that these guys are late bloomers who start breeding at age 15 and only procreate once every 2-7 years!) While few can afford market price caviar at a whoopin $70 - $400 a tablespoon 💵💰 black market caviar is NOT the answer. Still craving some gourmet goodness? From #NelsonMandela to #MartinLutherKingJr and most recently #MichelleObama comes the same message: 🗣 WE must be the change we want to see in this world. We must be the light that drives out darkness. WE must teach our children to love instead of teaching them to hate and to fear.
