11 Things to Do at the Delaware Beaches After Summer
Once the temperature drops, many avid beach-goers miss their favorite surfing, swimming, and tanning activities from the summer. Bethany Beach is known for its coastal and summer attractions, but the region also has plenty to do in the other seasons. Here are 11 fun things to do in Delaware after summer ends:
1. Go to a Festival: No matter the time of year, a festival is always a fun family activity. After summer, they’re a great opportunity to get out of the house and explore something new. Coming up on Oct. 25th is the Sea Witch Halloween Festival, perfect for getting in the Halloween spirit!
2. Make Caramel Apples: Caramel apples are a tasty treat that can be made and enjoyed throughout the fall and holiday season. They’re also a great way to take advantage of the abundance of apples this time of year.
3. Go Camping: Sure, it may not be as warm as it was a couple of weeks ago, but with parks like Delaware Seashore State Park and Cape Henlopen State Park within driving distance, you can bundle up and roast marshmallows any weekend you’d like.
4. Shop: The beginning of any season means new clothes are on the rack, and last season’s are on sale. With the tax benefits in Delaware, it would be a shame not to hit the nearby Tanger Outlets!
5. Take Family Pictures: It might be chilly, but the lack of crowds makes the beach a beautiful backdrop to a family portrait.
6. Explore Local Restaurants: Off the Hook and Blue Crab are two of many delicious restaurants in Bethany Beach, and open year-long. Menus may change seasonally, so this is a great time to try new foods at your favorite places.
7. Star Gazing: Grab a warm blanket and hit the beach after dark. You might even spot a falling star or two!
8. Explore Delaware’s History: You’ll have so much fun learning about the first state, you won’t even realize you’re learning! Visiting the local museums and historical landmarks on the Delaware History Trail are activities the entire family can experience.
9. Go Fishing: Fishing is exciting year round and is always a great way to spend the day. Weather off a pier, a boat, or the shore, you’re bound to have fun.
10. Tour Breweries: During the summer, there are likely to be crowds at popular breweries, like Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Now that beach guests have left town, you can taste all the beer and wine you want; possibly while traveling the Wine & Ale Trail. This trail passes through all of the best wineries and breweries in Delaware and is a great way to see the entire state.
11. Bake: Something about turning the oven on in 90-degree summer weather isn’t so appealing. When it gets cold, warm your home, and your belly, with a new recipe you’ve been dying to try.
