1) has anyone done a daemon/his dark materials au for project hail mary yet and 2) obsessed with considering what kind of animal grace would have. a small mammal or rodent, like a mouse or sugar glider or mole? a small amphibian, like a newt or a frog? a cat? would he have something even bigger? something that would be extremely unwieldy on a spaceship? something that would make space walks a fucking nightmare? something that would quite literally make grace an absolute last resort measure? or would him having a smaller daemon make it an even easier decision? were the hail mary astronauts chosen for their skills And their coma resistance And their daemons' sizes? or was that an afterthought? how do you think grace felt waking up not knowing who he was or where he was with two dead bodies with dust in their body bags? would his daemon remember or would they be affected by the drugs, too?
and don't even get me Started on rocky. the idea of earth's atmosphere having latent dust just Present inside of it and that's the reason grace's daemon hasn't disappeared even in this sterile ship (and even that little bit is enough to go off of, what little dust-filled air is present in the eva suit thankfully, thankfully enough to spread to his enclosure later on), but rocky doesn't have that. eridians don't Have daemons. until he breaks through the xenonite barrier to save grace's life. and rocky doesn't see it, grace doesn't see it, until he wakes up, until he wakes up and they realize there is something else with him on his side of the ship. would it be an earth animal? would it be an eridian animal? are there animals on erid? or would it be a - pebble? a clump of stones? would it walk or would it hover? would it talk? have a name?
