.
remember when dan called phil his husband
goodnight and good morning to him and only him .
why are you mixing the special sword for a special guy story w elements from the evil ring story? have you considered being chosen is literally a nightmare that will likely kill you if you aren’t careful, even if you win.
this will be a disjointed run on sentence abt hifant au so just be aware
just seen an eowyn & eomer edit of the conversation when eomer tells eowyn why she can’t fight despite her passion and resolve and reverence for the rohirrim that war is the province of men and obviously bc I based part of the high fantasy au on Rohan and the riders and eowyn and eomer I really was seeing visions abt Jannah and Finn having a very similar conversation but Finn is asking why he’s not allowed to fight and it’s really that Finn is seen generally as very fragile because he was very sick as a kid and manages a level of chronic illness as an adult while Jannah had been essentially a scrappy roughhouser from jump so it lowkey wasn’t even a surprise to anyone when she became a rider but Finn was really relegated to hanging out w maz doing crafty stuff and things that might require strength but little endurance. that being said Jannah did train him but the concept of him being a rider highkey makes her worry that she’ll be distracted w concerned abt anything happening to focus her complete attention on leading those serving under her, which she feels bad for doing even hypothetically but ultimately it’s still always in the back of her mind. anyway the siblingism of it all and in both situations it really boils down to the same thing which is being overprotective and not trusting your sibling to be hashtag strong bc that’s actually your job even tho if anyone else expressed that sentiment you’d literally beat their ass about it bc you do believe in them but the fear trumps your faith bc ppl really be dying out there
so before i actually start reading the last order I went looking through the available reviews on GR and making mental notes to see where I stand on a few things before and after reading, but even still before I actually pick up the book I’m going to reread before the awakening so that information is as fresh in my mind as it can be. anyway:
- I can see from a couple reviews they still run with the janitor bullshit in this book, but that mbalia may try to make that make more sense by having it be a form of consequence for some of Finn’s problematic behavior (ie compassion) but i truly cannot think of any way to make that actually make any goddamn sense given his aptitude shown in before the awakening (which, as of writing I have yet to revisit in a while) and every further instance of doubling down on the janitor bs really really infuriates me and I hate that two second line that really could’ve just implied that cadets would have a sanitation detail every once in a while became something ppl constantly make disparaging comments abt for like the last 10 years
- this book really should have been two separate books because only abt 15% of this takes place after tros and is mostly in flashbacks of Finn and Jannah’s time in the FO. Also hearing that Jannah’s storyline is the most interesting in the book (which, yay for me but I wish they just gave her a solo book since we barely saw her in the one movie she’s in to begin with) between the two.
- further, the new character from the post-tros sections probably should’ve been the main character in a second book with Finn and Jannah as secondary but high importance support characters. this may have been smushed into one book because the rest of the sw books are being moved from disney-Lucasfilms del rey books to random house if I’m understanding the situation correctly. But that’s the only reason I can think of for shoving another character in and rushing the blending of all three storylines at the end, bc it’s not uncommon for sw to hire an author to write more than one book. Idk.
- also in gonna think it’s too long, bc I already thought it was too long before I realized how much they tried to stuff in this book that could easily have been a Jannah centered novel w Finn secondary and a novella covering whatever the actual post-tros storyline will end up being with the additional new character.
so yeah. I predict that the Finn parts will likely frustrate me a little, even as I devour my crumbs, the Jannah parts will turn out to be the best (which I already anticipated bc Jannah had so little media I would do most anything to get my hands on it), and I might find myself disinterested in the new character and post tros storyline bc of how little time will be devoted to developing it, but that it will overall be a interesting concept regardless.
