What would Byakuya do if he realized that he had fallen for his 3rd seat officer who is from Rukongai? You, know, because that went over so well with the fam last time.
He and his family need to chill really badly.

- His first instinct is total denial. Of their existence, that is. Once he realises he’s starting to fall for them, he pulls back, has Renji deal with any and all interactions with them and just generally ignores them. - If he was in his office and they came and spoke to him, he’d speak to them professionally and shortly, not even looking up from his paperwork. If a situation arose where they’d need to interact he’d be needlessly cold(er than usual) to them. I imagine it would be very frustrating for the both of them, them because they have no idea what they’ve done wrong and him because he just wants to not have those feelings, and also because he realises he’s being cruel.- He watches them from afar, and notices little things about them. The way the breeze blows through their hair, the way they laugh, their small habits. But he knows that it’s pointless, that there’s nothing he can do; he just has to try and get over it. He doesn’t want to have to go through this again. Not that he regrets a single thing about what happened with Hisana, and if he had to do it all over again he would, but he’s older and less reckless now, and he’s also made a promise not to break the rules again. He also doesn’t want to go through the pain of losing someone else, or of being rejected.- If a dangerous situation arose, he would not allow them to be sent them anywhere near it. He’d sooner go there and deal with it himself than allow them to be put at risk. He’d flat-out refuse if they tried to suggest going, and would not hear any arguments. Even if it’s not explicitly dangerous, expect him to not let them be sent to the Human World for any reason at all. I imagine his third seat could become resentful of this behaviour, since he’d offer no explanation.- If they managed to get exposed to danger anyway, Byakuya would hear about it and rush there immediately. He’s not risking losing someone he cares for, even if he hasn’t exactly been showing it. Even if his third seat can take care of themselves, he’d be there, between them and the enemy. Afterwards, he’d berate them for being in the situation and insist that they be more careful in future.- Over the years, he’d definitely mellow out towards them. He’d naturally get used to the idea that he’s fond of them. Half of him wishes he did not have feelings for them, while the other half desperately wishes he was in a position to show his feelings.- I can see him eventually developing a romantic relationship with them, as long as he mellows enough for them to get to know him better, and as long as his feelings remain strong enough for him to decide they’re worth defying his family for. I don’t imagine the other Kuchiki (other than Rukia of course) ever being too happy with the situation though.
