Intro into Chakras!
Hello everyone! Let’s dive into a beginner’s guide on chakras! There are so many things to know when it comes to chakras but let’s start you off with some basic knowledge.
There are 7 Chakras to the body:
o Crown
o Third eye
o Throat
o Heart
o Solar Plexus
o Sacral
o Root
Each chakra can become blocked or overactive. It is important to notice when a charka is off balance and how to rebalance each chakra. Starting with the root, I will summarize defining colors, characteristics and elements of each chakra.
The root chakra, our first chakra, represents our foundation. This chakra is located at the base of our spine, in the tail bone area; giving us the feelings of being grounded. Our root controls our survival issues such as money, financial independence and food. This chakra can be developed as early as 1-7 years old. Once we have opened this chakra, we feel more confident in our ability to withstand most challenges. When the root chakra is blocked, we feel as though we are standing on unstable ground, as if we feel threatened. The root chakra is represented with the color red. The element for our root chakra is the earth element. A great stone to use for this chakra is Hematite.
The sacral chakra is the second chakra. It represents how we relate to our emotions and the emotions of others. The sacral chakra also gives us creativity along with sexual energy. The sacral charka is located at the lower abdomen about 2 inches below the navel. It controls our sense of abundance, pleasure, sexuality and well-being. Feeling a lack of control in your life could mean your sacral chakra is out of balance. A stone that is generally used with this chakra is Tiger’s Eye falling under the element of water. The sacral chakra is represented with the color orange and can develope as young as 8-14 years old.
The solar plexus chakra is the third chakra located in the upper abdomen in the stomach area. This chakra speaks to your ability to control your life and to be confident; controlling your self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence. It is represented with the color yellow. Amber is a great stone to use when working with the solar plexus charka falling into the fire element. You may feel overwhelming amounts of self-doubt and shame when your solar plexus is blocked.
The heart chakra is the fourth chakra located in the center of chest, just above our heart. The heart chakra control inner peace, joy and love. This chakra can influence our ability to give and receive love from not only ourselves but to others. Rose quarts is what most people use when working with the heart chakra. The heart chakra is represented with the color green., falling into the air element. Our heart chakra will usually develop at the ages of 21-28. If you have a difficulty fully opening up to people, your heart chakra may be blocked. Experiencing empathy and deep compassion means your heart chakra is open.
The throat chakra, the fifth chakra, located at your throat, gives voice to the heart chakra. It controls our ability to communicate. This shows our personal power with truth and self-expression and is generally developed between the ages of 29-35. The throat chakra is in the element of sound/music and is most powerful with Aquamarine; represented with the color turquoise or light blue. When the throat chakra is blocked, you will feel like you have trouble finding the words to say how you truly feel to yourself and others.
The third eye chakra is our sixth chakra on the body. It is located on our forehead between the eyes. This can also be known as the ‘brow chakra’. Our third eye controls our ability to see the big picture and connect to our intuition. It registers information beyond the surface level of understanding. This is our eye of the soul represented with color purple or dark blue and works best with Amethyst. We can start to develop our third eye chakra once we began to hit the ages of 36-42. Our third eye is the element of light.
The crown chakra, our highest chakra, is located at the crown of the head. Representing the color violet or white, the chakra stands for our ability to be fully connected spiritually. Once you have fully opened your crown chakra – very few people ever fully open – you-re then able to access a higher consciousness. It also controls our inner and outer beauty. When working with your crown chakra, it is best used with clear quartz. This is the element of divine consciousness and is usually developed at the ages of 43-49.
Now that you have the general idea of chakras, you can start to balance each one! There are many things that can help us open and rebalance our chakras such as stones, foods, colors and even yoga poses. Come back for more Chakra knowledge on my next blog; Balancing Chakras
