On the back of yet another Rafael Nadal victory over rival Roger Federer in the Australian Open Semi Final last night, it must surely be time to consider Nadal as potentially the best tennis has ever seen.
The GOAT (Greatest of All Time) tag has been discussed and debated at length over recent years as the great Roger Federer has risen and broken many records. Federer’s style of play is seen as the way tennis should be played, very elegant and easy to watch, and thus has endeared himself to many fans and pundits who given him the GOAT tag.
However stats do not lie, and Rafael Nadal with his victory over Federer on Friday Night, he has taken his career head to head record vs Federer to 23-10 (9-2 in Grand Slam matches). Victory for Nadal on Sunday in the final will see him join Rod Laver as the only men to have won all the Grand Slams twice. And with a probable 9th French Open win in June, he could be within 2 of Federer’s record of 17 Grand Slam victories, just after his 28th birthday.
So who is the GOAT, Rod, Rafa and Roger?
