Empathy

I know that pain well,

The silence in the room 

and the smiles we use

To hide away our eyes.

You sit next to me 

and I can feel this energy about you

- It’s so lonely

Yet you hold yourself so well. 

You must be so strong

The pressure weighing hard 

Against your heart.

I wish I could know you better

for my empathy can only feel so much.

I bet it’s easy

To try and distract yourself

But I see you clutching 

For a signal 

Hoping you make it through the static

- I know that pain well.
