I used that color magic app where you generate a palette based on a characters name with some of your ocs I think it would be fun if you drew them with these palettes! It’s a fun challenge no white or anything just the colors there

This has been sitting in my inbox for a full year and the website has gotten severely enshittified since then (because of course it did). Like I typed in “Summer Beauty” and got a mediocre “Warm Orange” palette, it’s that badly degraded. I did have a few palettes saved from last year that I used to do some doodles!

Instead of picking my favorite character from each next gen, I decided to pick the characters who I think would have the most interesting interactions!

As you can see there’s a pretty wide range here lol, some of these characters would loathe each other but I could see others becoming close friends!

What's in Orchard Sunrise's bag?

She packs the essentials…with style!

Mini toolkit packed with small screwdrivers, nuts, bolts, and other essentials for minor repairs around the house (like a leaky faucet) and also to tighten the screws on her crutches when they get loosened with use

Small sewing kit for repairs of the textile kind (mending quilts and clothing articles)

Old whistle that has been in the Apple family for generations, which she uses to call her family over when she needs their attention. It’s so loud they have no choice but to drop everything and respond to its call, even if her problem turns out to be minor

Handkerchief for drying a sweaty brow in the hot sun (embroidered for the aesthetic)

Cutesy Neighponese-inspired notebook with a corresponding pen which she uses to keep track of that day’s repairs and of what still needs to be fixed. She presents her “mommy-do list” to her family every evening over dinner to make sure they’re on top of things

Dog treat pouch so she can train (and pamper) Ethel throughout the day

What's in Laffy's bag?

Her bag is kind of pathetic lol

Folders and papers for school lying crumpled at the bottom. She has to really dig around for her homework every class because nothing is organized

A single chewed-up pencil and eraser, which she also has to dig for (if she can’t get a teacher or classmate to loan one)

A portable gaming console which is cracked from being jostled around with everything else. Her parents can fully afford to replace it but they won’t because she needs to learn responsibility. This pisses Laffy off so bad

Her trusty headphones

Batteries for the headphones and gaming console, again just rolling around unsecured with everything else

Assorted candy that’s definitely partly melted from the heat and sticking to everything

Breath mints and spray-on deodorant so she doesn’t completely embarrass herself in front of her friends or her crush

She used to have a lunchbox that matched her backpack but she doesn’t carry it anymore because “it’s not cool for your mom to pack your lunch anymore GOSH get with the times!” Putting up with mediocre cafeteria lunches just for reputation points lol

Considering her nickname "Sunny," what small quirks or habits do you imagine Princess Bis has that bring brightness to her day-to-day life?

I like to think she has plenty! Bismuth Sun is a super busy gal especially with the conflicts her family is dealing with in this verse so she looks for every strategy she can get to keep herself feeling energetic and upbeat through all the hustle and bustle. I can see her singing little songs to her colony of meerkats as they help her with her work, just like she’s Snow White. They don’t understand what she’s saying, but they can sense her cheer and this makes them more motivated to please her. She closes out each day by buying herself a sweet treat so she always has something to look forward to. When she has time, she also tries to develop a habit of writing down at least one good thing that happened each day. It’s all stuff to keep her own morale up, even among all the busyness of trying to balance school, royal duties, and family time. She’s got to build in a few activities that are just for herself.

Bismuth also has a little Humdrum figurine that she carries around and talks to!

Some might say she’s a little old for these toys, but it’s a fun and whimsical way for Bissy to bounce around her own ideas and process new decisions. If she’s feeling particularly playful she might roleplay as if she’s a Power Pony herself, asking her sidekick for advice. Either way, that figurine was a gift from her Uncle Spike, and carrying it around makes her feel closer to him. It’s comforting.

Character Development Ask: 44 and 32 for Lant3rn Glow

From this ask game:

“How easy or difficult is it for your character to say ‘I love you?’ Can they say it without meaning it?”

“Describe a scenario in which your character feels most uncomfortable.”

The answers to these two questions are related!

Lantern Glow lives in a very chaotic household that is, frankly, stressful to deal with a lot of the time. Their struggles with puberty and identity alone get them down a lot of the time, and it’s all made even worse by their mom stressing out and their siblings being annoying. At this point they can expect to wake up every day to their sisters getting up in their space and their mom in a miserable mood.

So what if that doesn’t happen?

It should be a relief those rare times that Lantern wakes up to a calm house, where even Mama Dash is in a good mood. But instead it puts them on edge. This isn’t normal. Surely something’s going to happen to make it all blow up. Sometimes that’s exactly what does happen, so even if the entire day goes well they spend all of it just waiting for the other horseshoe to drop. In the process they end up ruining a good time for themselves.

Expressions of “I love you” have the same effect on Lantern. Dash tells her kids she loves them and means it, she’s never laid a hoof or wing on them, but she’s not the sweet and tender mom from the storybooks. Her expressions of love are often couched between reprimands like “Strawberry I love you but you have to stop trying to give us rabies.” Also Lantern in all their pubescent angst will have somewhat unreasonable thoughts like “if she REALLY loved us she wouldn’t make us live in this tiny apartment” or “she’d let me see my dad more” not realizing it isn’t that simple. If their siblings are annoying them they can’t really bring themselves to say “I love you,” but it would be hard for any tween to do so after having a toddler mess up their room. They do say it to their mom more often but it’s usually a begrudging mumble because the whole thing just makes them uncomfortable.
