Snap to 30°

The last three weeks have been ones of building as many buildings as possible for the display. As a result I have approximately 35 structures across the three states.

While making these assets, I’ve been able to think about the overall aesthetics of the project and how we’ve been essentially ignoring it on terms of composition not just on the scene holding all of the buildings but the actual scene itself. Previously, we’ve just assumed that we’d use a generic particle effect for a background but it’s become apparent that through doing this, a very large portion of the screen would just become wasted space where it can be used to create a further emphasis on the scene. 

Currently, the scene seems tacked onto the screen. Everything seems to be heavily structured and confined. By adding something to offset the structured nature of the scene, it can make the scene visually more natural looking. I’ll be investigating this further. Another qualm that I’m having with the scene is in section K. The intention of the area was to create Stage 1: undeveloped land Stage 2: park with a lake Stage 3: Park with cycleways, playground etc. It has become apparent that it has become a filler spot and isn’t there to serve any specific purpose. I’m thinking now that the best way to tackle this is to cut the section away and move the proposed park into section J. This will create the effect of more variation in buildings as by cutting away a bit of section J it means that we don’t need to fill it up with our limited house illustrations. I do think that it is important to still include the park in the scene as to create a healthy urban environment we need a good mix of community spaces.

In addition, we’re going to evaluate our colour palette for a day scene as the blues and purples give a nice but cold feel to the scene which isn’t what we’re looking for during the day.
