The King ~ Review
Just saw The King with @lops06 because we had to see our boy Timothee Chalamet on the big screen. It was actually a different film to what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be a very battle heavy film and it’s surprisingly not - there is only one big battle (with major Battle of the Bastards vibes). It is very much a slower drawn out politics sort of film. As everyone tries to weasel their way to the reluctant King’s favour or take advantage of him. Leaving him to pick out who is honest and trustworthy. Timmy’s scenes with Joel Edgerton’s character were phenomenal and they play off each other really well. I loved that we got to hear Timmy speak French! Multiple times!! They definitely took advantage of it. And he also had French speaking scenes with Lily Rose-Depp which I enjoyed. Hands down the funniest part was Robert Pattinson playing a French prince who was speaking English in the thickest French accent. His character was meant to be a bit of a fool and RPatz committed to it 100%. We both sniggered every time he spoke - and so did another girl in our row. No one else in the cinema laughed but they were quite a bit older and clearly didn’t see Twilight so couldn’t grasp how funny it was watching Timmy speak in French to a blonde Rpatz and for him to ask to speak English coz we all know someone here doesn’t speak French and it’s the ‘French’ guy 😂😂😂. The Score was amazing. It was done by Nicholas Britell who did the score for Moonlight (film osts are my jam) Is it necessary to see this film in Cinema? Nope. Some of the cinematography might be lost seeing it on the small screen and it is a very visually dark film. However everyone should see it when it comes on Netflix in two weeks! The subtitles will help as the accents are quite thick so some of the snappy and dark humour might get lost on some people.
So yeah everyone catch this film on Netflix!! It wont be for everyone - but if you love Timothee Chalamet you will enjoy this film. It is so different to anything he’s done before and I hope he does another medieval film in the future (is there anything this man can’t do??)
