Right now, as she tries to mentally rearrange her schedule to include a trip to the store for supplies without delaying pickup for Becca and prepare for all the different ways Becca might react to this and remember what she was planning for dinner and which chores she had been planning for the evening, as she feels the weight of carrying every single one of those tasks on her own, that memory is lemon juice on an open wound. What she would give to have someone else to help her. What she would do to hug her mom again.

(The lice scene was the first real thing I wrote for the co-teacher story! I was very pleased with it because I don't really write angsty things. They make me saaaaaad.)

👶 my feelings about kids for my OTP: i think that tanner and penny are going to mean a lot to mel and that she's going to feel very fulfilled and happy about getting to help raise them, but i don't think she would want to have her own kids. she's shouldered so much responsibility for so long! it's hard for me to imagine her choosing to add that new layer of responsibility to her life. :)
