Tumblr’s trans discourse makes me sad

You would think that trans tumblr would be fairly united(not completely, that’s unrealistic) against transphobes. Instead, a large chunk of trans people blame their hardships on non-dysphoric trans people and alleged “transtrenders”. I’m not trans, and I’m not you, so I won’t tell you how to feel about your trans identity. Be proud, or wish you were cis, I don’t care. I’m sure gender dysphoria can be really horrible, but I must wonder what good it brings to yell at each other, instead of actual transphobes.

I would really love it if the wider, mainstream LGBT community would come to an agreement, one way or the other, about what "gender non-conforming" actually means because I keep seeing the term just...tacked onto the end of stuff clearly without much thought, used alternatively as a kind of stand-in for "nonbinary" and as "cis, but does not conform to traditional gender roles" and it's like...I would feel so much better about using this term if I could guarantee I would actually be understood! but I can't guarantee that! If I can't tell what people mean when they use it half the time how can I expect others to know what I'm saying when I use it!

I'm not straight, I don't act straight, I don't look straight, I don't participate in straight relationship dynamics or straight dating culture, I don't relate to most straight media. I am not straight. I have been harmed by straightness and by heteronormativity. Assuming that I am somehow Closer to Straightness because I think dudes are hot is very Not Okay in my book.

Finding out about the blackface Labubu is crazy cus I heard a YouTuber say blackface had a “controversial past” no dude James Gunn has a controversial past blackface has a pretty clear cut past. controversy gives rise to disagreement blackface was never made to be a thing people could disagree on because the people disagreeing on it weren’t (and arguably still aren’t) considered people and if they did disagree then that’s a one way ticket to a tall tree. I think people believe that being a reporter and whitewashing a story are the same thing. They aren’t. If you report on something softly (and are an actually good reporter) it’s due to not wanting to get sued or print libel, if you’re a youtuber it seems it’s often so you can play both sides for engagement and a steady audience. Not trying to state facts but trying to cultivate 4 quadrant appeal. To be fair this isn’t just YouTube, it’s mainstream news. It’s been that way since Hearst got his grubby little fingers on a paper. Biased journalism is corrosive but the norm. And part of it is because we the reading audience have been primed to seek out sensationalism

A YouTuber named JJ Olatunji better known by KSI. I personally have an extreme distaste for KSI, he’s on film sexually harassing women, he made “the rape face” popular online, he purports to be a changed man but can’t keep up that facade for more then an attosecond, he works with known racists, he spreads harmful ideas on black masculinity, and generally he is one of my least favorite people to see when I open up my for you page in the rare moments I use tik tok.
