I don't know that it ever actually got said. It got hinted at a lot. But something that people should know was true was that the Drashari tithe is 25% of the city's ether. The other 75% is supposed to get put into the ground for the Replenishment. That hadn't been happening for many Replenishments in a row. The past two or three Replenishments. I think we discussed that only less than 5% of the city's ether was actually going to go into the ground for Domunas this Replenishment. And the rest was getting caught up by the Leywright, but also being funnelled out to archmages in the city to unnaturally extend their lives. That's what Nydas was doing that back-alley ether thing. All to push the Leywright along, and bribe people and all this corrupt stuff.

Yesterday i bought the new Saints Row reboot, despite seeing several reviews calling it fairly mediocre. While I'm not going to say their opinions are wrong (despite you know, being queen of the universe and bearer of the correct opinions), i feel like this one of those situations where games media being predominantly cishet white and straight kinda lets the impression of the game down.

One review I remember, said that while playing, he bought the mariachi outfit and spend the rest of the game running around in that; and respectfully that is playing the game wrong.

A key part of playing Saints Row is, to my mind, about exploring gender expression. Saints Row is often called a parody of GTA but I would argue a more correct description would be a queering of GTA. GTA has character customization yes, but it's comparatively grounded, Saints Row on the other hand lets you dress up as a slutty goth cowboy, and provides you with not only a gender slider, but also a dick and a boobs slider.

The thing with Saints Row is, yes it takes the tropes associated with GTA and turns them up to eleven, coating the fight clubs in a hyper-kawaii coat of paints, and allowing you to surf on the roofs of fighter jets. But at times it also does genuinely compelling character studies at times - the example that comes to mind is Shaundi's meeting with her past self and both of them despising each other.

Im holding off on my final verdict on the game until I have either beaten it or gotten bored, but while it is a more grounded affair than anything after SR2, it does feel like this is the game where it finally embraces the queerness that has almost accidentally snuck into the series.

And nothing is more evident of this, than the standard boss going from a random white male chunk of beef, to a brown woman with Link levels of LGBT (yes all of them) swag.
