Brought a design I’ve had in my head into reality yesterday. I had been rendering shapes that I really enjoy working with in new ways late last year and this was one design on paper that stuck with me. It’s a compilation of parts I created for the Magnolia collection I designed a couple years ago. It’s feminine, but structurally interesting in a sort of architectural, masculine way. I had wanted to make a pin from it somehow and this is the end result.

Pins are something I’ve always loved creating and designing. One reason I’m getting excited about American Craft Council is the fact that the show draws an audience that truly appreciates brooches and pins.

It’s kind of interesting, my mind first goes to designing a brooch before I begin breaking down the parts into necklaces and bracelets or pendant designs. I wonder if other jewelers run into the same thought pattern? Maybe I’m drawn to the pin because it acts like a canvas, usually larger than a pendant and feels more spacious in terms of freedom and creativity.

Looking forward to bringing a few new lapel pins and brooches to the show !🌞

I spent my day in my home studio which still feels unsettled....
