She was happy.
Looking at the perfect picture in her hand, tears began rolling down her eyes. She was happy. With her signature pink headphones on her head, a smile on her face, drink in one hand, and music surrounding her, she was happy. She was one of the most popular DJ’s of all time. Many loved her music, her remixes, her upbeat spunk that brought out so much charisma to add to her charm.
She was happy. But now?
Now she stays at home every night, with her iPad in one hand and the picture in another. She can’t bear to open the iPad; it’s filled with memories that she doesn’t want anymore. The pictures and the music that she desperately wants to get rid of. She hasn’t stepped into the DJ world in over a year. She hasn’t created new music in over a year. All because of him.
When he got up and left, he took her soul away with him. Now she’s empty. All she wants is to be happy again.
It started from afar. It was another typical night for her. She was on the stage ready to begin the event she was hosting when she spotted him from afar. She will never forget his tall silhouette in the back of the room. When he turned around, his dark eyes glistened in the dim lights, and the smile on his face that turned her cheeks bright red. Their eyes locked from the distance. She scrambled to begin the event while feeling herself burn up from his stare. Their eyes locked again. He knew. He knew the effect that he had on her. He showed up again the next night and the rest was history. Walking up to her with two drinks in his hand and walked his way into her world.
At first, it was puppy love. They were infatuated with each other. Every where she went he would be there. He was the supportive boyfriend; the one who showed up to all her events and waited for her to finish. The one who listened to her music and gave her criticism to help her improve. She was in love, but the good things never last forever.
Then, he wanted to be a part of her world. He wanted to share the stage with her. Excited, she agreed. She brought him into her world. She taught him what she knew, she introduced him to people, taught him the music, taught him the games. He loved it. He loved the attention. He loved the stage.
Together, they were the dynamic couple. The ones that everyone envied. But then he decided he didn’t need her anymore. He didn’t want her anymore. She taught him everything he needed, she gave him everything he needed, and now? He didn’t need her anymore. He wanted it all for himself.
One night, he got up and left. No explanation, no letters, no messages, nothing. She will never forget that day. Waking up and finding their things gone. Their music, their lyrics. Finding his things gone. He didn’t leave a trace. His clothes, books, toys... gone. He wanted to go off on his own. He didn’t want her next to him anymore. Gone.
All she was left with was the iPad and the picture she now holds in her hand. She hasn’t stepped foot into the music scene since that night.
It hurts. Music hurts. She spends her nights staring blankly at the picture and afraid to open the iPad. She’s afraid of opening up the memories that she is desperately trying to forget. She’s afraid she lost her touch. She doesn’t know who she is anymore without him.
One day, she will be strong enough to listen to what she had once created. One day, she will be able to look at the picture again and smile. One day, she will put herself back on the stage with her music. One day, she will be herself again as a solo artist.
But today? She looks at the picture in her hand with bittersweet tears in her eyes. The good things never last forever, but neither do the bad things. One day she will be happy again.
All she wants is to be happy again.
