I've been noticing these little dogwoods around campus this past week and they've been tremendous little comforts. In case you didn't know, the dogwood flower is my hometown's flower. So, when I saw these flowers here, it just made me think, "This is home too." No matter how far away I go from my familiar comforts, somehow, some way, I can still find remnants of home. To me, home is less about a state of being and more of a state of feeling. Back in Fayetteville, I felt stressed, I felt alone, I felt stuck. So I thought that by moving away, I'd be free from all those feelings. Boy, was I in for a surprise because I have felt all those things TIMES TEN BILLION since moving to New York. What I've come to recognize throughout the duration of this year is that, you can't run away from your problems and expect them to magically disappear. You cannot expect that going to a new place is going to automatically be somewhere you'll adjust to perfectly. Everything takes time. You have to be patient and deal with your problems before you can progress in life. So, I'm thankful for this little flower for being a reminder of all that. #dogwood #ILoveFlowers #TheDogwoodsBackHomeArePrettier #JustSaying #IStillLoveNYThough #ThisIsMyHomeToo (at St. John's University)
