I was just reminded of a small section of the Frequently Asked Questions section of Holden Shearer's Exalted vs. World of Darkness Revised, and I think it might be good to share with everyone. (Transcription in alt text and under the cut.)

A: This is a game about breaking the cycles of corrupt systems and radical redistribution of power. It was political well before someone showed up and decided not to be straight, white, and male. Further, all art is political, and both Exalted and the classic World of Darkness are and have always been brazenly political. They were among the earliest and definitely the biggest champions of radical inclusivity within the hobby in the 1990s and 2000s, and this irrelevant, goofy-ass fan supplement is proud to carry on that tradition. If you never noticed this element of the classic WoD until now, you might have wasted years of your life with your head in your ass. Luckily, you can pick any day of your life to open your eyes and turn on your brain and start living in a world with people other than just you in it. Today would be a fine time to start.

I've been getting a lot of asks recently asking me to share fundraisers, so I'm just gonna make this one post to clear some things up.

As a personal rule, I will not post or reblog fundraisers, posts asking for donations, or anything else of the sort. There are only two exceptions I make to this rule: 1) Posts from people I know personally and well, and 2) posts advertising art commissions (regardless of artistic medium).

I have no interest in trying to vet fundraisers or track down sources that have already vetted them. Plus, this blog has less than 100 followers, and I'm willing to guess most of those accounts are inactive at this point. If you're looking for reach, there are much better blogs to ask.

I'm also going to be turning off anonymous asks for a while. Someone remind me in a few weeks to consider turning them back on.

Annual holiday season post. No Tom Waits this year, though.

2024 sure has been one hell of a year. These last few months especially have seemed extra rough on everyone. I'm not gonna try giving a whole speech about "it gets better" or anything like that. Never been a big fan of blind hope like that. Yeah, eventually things will pass and it's bound to get better, but that's not particularly reassuring when there's the expectation that it's gonna hurt the whole time, y'know?

So instead of some kind of feel-good ramble that I don't think any of us would fully believe in, I'm gonna focus on a different side of things.

There's been a lot of pain this year, in various directions, and that deserves to be recognized. We've all been struggling, and it's tiring, and sometimes you just want a chance to lie down and rest for a while. And honestly, I think we all deserve a break from The Unrelenting Horrors of Modern Life, at least for a little while.

So go get yourself some kind of treat. Doesn't have to be big. Do up your favourite hot drink in the way you like best. Get yourself those sweets you've been denying yourself. As long as no one's getting hurt, embrace the things that bring you joy. Because gorrammit, we deserve some happiness. And if the universe isn't going to send any happiness our way, store-bought is fine.

There's still a lot of fighting to be done in the near future. Some of it to keep making things better, some of it for survival. Fighting tired is a fast way to make sure you lose, though. Rest, relax, and try to recover from everything this year has thrown at us. Take the rest of the year off; we deserve that much. We can keep fighting next year.

Going through the list of blogs I follow to see who I can boop has made me realize that the overwhelming majority of blogs I follow have been inactive for literal years. I don't know how to feel about this.
