“We’ve run out of time to wait for our elected officials to handle the climate issue”
“But we know that isn’t enough,” 18-year-old Zanagee told Teen Vogue. “For decades the mainstream climate movement has appealed to people who are already invested in environmental justice.” One of Zero Hour’s goals is to broaden the base of support for climate justice so that people understand the social consequences of the issue as well.
“Our movement proves that despite not being able to vote we can still have an impact on the government that is endangering our future,” Zanagee said. “We’ve run out of time to wait for our elected officials to handle the climate crisis that my generation will inherit — we need to make change to survive.”
Ahead of the march on Saturday, a series of climate mobilization events will rally youth from across the world. On Thursday, July 19, Zero Hour organizers will meet with Congress to lobby for change. If you’re in D.C., you can join this effort.
These kids are amazing, and what they’re doing is so important.
This Saturday, July 21st, young people will be marching in Washington, D.C. to demand our government to take climate action. The Zero Hour movement, founded by high school students, aims to uplift and amplify the voices of American youth to ensure we have a livable future. To participate in the march, sign up HERE. If you will be in D.C. marching, you can also participate in the Lobby Day on Thursday, July 19 or join the Art Build on Friday, June 20.
If you can’t make it to D.C., there are several other ways you can support the Zero Hour mission! You can participate in a sister march in your area or help promote the cause on social media. Post about the Zero Hour march using the hashtag #ThisisZeroHour and the tag @ThisisZeroHour. If you are able, you can also make a donation to the cause HERE.

Jamie Margolin is a climate justice activist and co-executive director of @thisiszerohour, a youth climate action organization based in Seattle, Washington. In 2017, at age 15, Margolin founded Zero Hour with Nadia Nazar. She serves as the co-executive director of the organization. Zero Hour was founded in reaction to the response Jamie witnessed following Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and her personal experience during the 2017 Washington wildfires. She has garnered notoriety as a plaintiff in the Aji P. v. Washington case, suing the state of Washington for their inaction against climate change on the basis of a stable climate being a human right. Her writing about climate change has appeared in many publications including HuffPost, Teen Ink, and CNN. She was part of Teen Vogue’s 21 Under 21 and one of People Magazine's 25 Women Changing the World in 2018. Margolin is also a member of the Junior State of America. Young people around the world have drawn inspiration from Zero Hour — most notably Greta Thunberg. Thunberg, then a 15-year-old high school student in Sweden, read about Zero Hour’s day of action online. A month later, she began her Fridays For Future school strike campaign, protesting outside Sweden’s parliament every week. The strike movement spread across Europe and the world, becoming a key part of today’s wave of youth climate activism. #RickFraustoFineArt Jamie Margolin Drawing, 2020 #originaldrawing on archival paper Dimensions: 6 X 9 inches · · · #JamieMargolin #ThisIsZeroHour #ClimateJustice #ActivistArt #ART #Artivist #ArtForSocialJustice #VisualActivism #ClimateStrike #JamieMargolinQuotes #YouthRising #Power #powerfulwomen #QuoteOfTheDay #ArtOfTheDay #illustration #illustrateyourworld #FridaysForFuture #extinctionrebellion #insta_artgallery #artcollective #blackandwhite #imaginationarts #InspiredByNature #ClimateCollapse #climatejusticenow #Tribute #Portrait (at Seattle, Washington State, U.S.A) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8cEmdBpvaI/?igshid=xfpnp6qk5ssv

Today we strike. Organized and led by young people across the world whose future’s at at risk with the devastating effects of climate change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is time for radical change if we want to preserve our planet for future generations. As a business owner I have always put environmental and ethical ethos at the forefront of my choices but we will only see effective change through collective action. It is not enough to make personal and professional change the cornerstone of our strategies when the most polluting industries exploit and government policies leave our entire system vulnerable to these environmental abusers. I hope you follow the lead of incredible youth leaders in this movement and join us in demanding that other businesses and government take meaningful action now! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Learn, organize, act! follow these organizations: @schoolstrikeforclimate @thisiszerohour @fridaysforfuture @sunrisemvmt @iiycfamily @earth_uprising ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Visit: strikewithus.org ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #climatestrike #globalclimatestrike #fridaysforfuture #thisiszerohour #sunrisemovement #strikewithus https://www.instagram.com/p/B2olusDAOmx/?igshid=rntaqoz56fc3
