The imagery of post-canon Thistle refuses to cooperate unless the caretaker calls him “Princess” or “Queen”.

Tho he’s fully cooperate only when it’s Delgal/Yaad. But he can’t always present hence why the caretaker was hired.

i saw you on pinterest. don’t remember where but I was like oh!! it’s tumblr user igrab! anyway do you think thistle used to be the type of person to have a small appetite or a large one or just regular? do you think he enjoyed eating a lot or did he struggle or find a lack of interest in it? I headcanpn based on some of the extra materials that he had a fairly small appetite and wasn’t super interested in eating unless it was socially like sharing a meal with delgal. I’m hungry as you can probably tell. also I bet freinag used to make thistle eat too many pastries/desserts/sweet snacks when he was little because he thought it was ‘cute’ and it gave thistle belly aches because freinag is a careless idiot like that

as for schmissle… so, my take on him and food is that before the lion he was. well fairly spoiled. he always had enough to eat, had access to the best chefs in the kingdom who would make him whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it and as a result, he basically tasted none of it. he didn’t eat a lot bc it just didn’t mean anything to him. he ate the sweets pressed on him with no idea that some children had sugar once a year. he didn’t even know that that’s why his stomach was hurting. one of the reasons his ‘utopia’ resulted in people losing their taste was because he didn’t consider Joy Of Food to be an essential part of life. easier to just make it so no one needed to eat, ever!

but then. THEN. then.

his body hasn’t eaten in 1000 yrs. when he first rediscovers hunger, it’s going to be in a way he never EVER conceptualized it before. He asks people why his stomach hurts, why his mouth is wet when he looks at mithrun and kabru’s meal (in my head they are sharing a certain amt of recovery space as they have… unique experiences that can help each other). he has literally never experienced proper hunger before so it wasn’t something the lion could take away… and he’s discovering it now. with a VENGEANCE. he discovers things that taste different, that he likes or doesn’t like. he discovers that eating when you’re hungry feels good, that food made with love tastes better, that putting effort into your own food leaves you feeling more satisfied.

because, dungeon meshi is all about this grand metaphor of how food, hunger, and eating are the base expression of what it means to want, and how that drive expresses itself. and tbh thistle being completely disconnected from this metaphor AT THE START is why he is never going to win. he cannot find happiness because what he wants isn’t sustainable. he doesn’t understand.

by that logic btw mithrun was also hugely susceptible to the demon because he was so privileged and disconnected from anything real. versus marcille and laios who not only had each other, but their hunger was deeper. less ‘complicated intellectual idea’ and more ‘real feeling that shapes my identity more than words can say.’

anyway i think he actually has a huge sweet tooth it’s like the first thing that gives him serotonin again they have to stop him from eating nothing but glazed honey buns and consider, perhaps, a vegetable.
