WBJ Day 9 Bonus Edition

Pantheon

The lead pantheon I have at the moment, is the Elemental Lords. These six beings are said to be the ones who started the universe.

()The Elemental Lord of Fire. Representing the Domains of Fire, War and Artifice. Appears as a tall musclebound male, shock of fire like hair, wearing what looks like blacksmiths gear.

()The Elemental Lord of Water Representing the Domains of Water, Travel and Plant. A lithe and ever moving creature, form never truly setting on one look with the occasional ripple across its form.

()The Elemental Lord of Earth Representing the Domains of Earth, Strength and Protection. Tall and built like a mountain.

()The Elemental Lord of Air Representing the Domains of Air, Weather and Luck. An eagle with with an unfathomable wingspan, yet about 2 feet wide at the same time, flies in on cloud of lightning.

()The Elemental Lord of Positivity Representing the Domains of Sun, Glory and Nobility. A woman dressed in the most humble of clothes, yet always the most regal wherever she stands.

()The Elemental Lord of Negativity Representing the Domains of Void, Death and Darkness. A thin gentleman in a sharp suit, always up to date with the latest fashions.

The Elemental Lords are worshipped as the great creators, as without them, the universe just couldn’t exist, shrines to all six can be found within most homes, all six given reverence through burning of incense at their relevant symbols.

WBJ Day 19: War

Currently, there isn't any ongoing war. The invasion, drew the peoples together. But that hasn't stopped military innovation. With the constant thought that the invaders could return, new machines have been developed to allow the people to fight back magically and technologically. What isn't known is that the invasion is still happening. The invaders and the Mage, in there shunted reality, have been influencing reality to continue their struggles

Military is looked after by the Ministry of Defence, a multi national force set up to defend against any opposing force, whether it be the invaders returned, monsters threatening the people or the occasional rogue cult.

On the local level, conflict between citizens is decided by ritual war, fighting with non lethal weapons that leave a magic mark when hit, although in recent years with the rise of virtual realities, conflict can be resolved even safer.

WBJ Day 1 Bonus Edition

After seeing @ladytabletop offering additional prompts for World Building June, I’m going to follow her prompts as well, doing a quick bonus post!

Starting with: Start Small!

The Roetenin

These small creatures, exist in a state of magical fluctuation, being affected by elemental changes applied to them, expressing these elements through different abilities. They are small frog like creatures with a more spherical body, and an extra pair of eyes, allowing it to perceive magical auras.

Through the elements:

Fire: the Roetenin glows at all times, allowing it to be used as a torch, and can be squeezed to heat up metal, for use in cooking on the go.

Water: the Roetenin can create a constant flow of water when squeezed and can used as a sponge to soak up any fluid it’s placed into and expel it again at a later point.

Earth: the Roetenin becomes rock solid and when squeezed, distends into a rough circle, allowing it to be used as an impromptu shield, also when near deposits of concentrated ore, the Roetenin calls out to the carrier.

Air: the Roetenin starts to float about 2 feet off the ground, allowing items to be attached to the Roetenin and carried effortlessly, and can be squeezed by different degrees to get a breeze ranging from light to strong.

Other elements can be used, such as the quasi elements (e.g. earth/water based acid), or the positive or negative powers to get other stranger reactions!

Adventurers from all over the world like to have one on hand, with a number of enchanted stones infused with a variety of elements to make use of these abilities.

WBJ Day 5 Bonus Late Edition

Inside and outside.

Taking an additional look at a single building in the city, I’ve chosen to look at an Orcish communal block. From the outside, it’s a near perfect cube, 10 stories high, which on the south side of the structure, large triple story doors lead into the opening foyer. On the north side, large shutters open to a loading dock, for the businesses on the ground floor. The East and West sides have a couple of doors that lead to shops and workshops owned and run by the people of the building, on the west, a tailors specialising in orcish physiques, a restaurant serving traditional orcish barbecue and an apothecary; on the east, an entrance to the metro, a convenience store, a metal workings, and an Oracle’s shop.

The interior, a courtyard in the centre, open space for cooking and growing the apothecaries herbs, balconies on every floor looking over the courtyard. Every floor above the bottom has shared communal space for the inhabitants, each floor generally inhabited by a few family groups, each with their own few rooms for privacy and sleep, and decorated in each families runes, totems and sigils.

The rooftop is additional farming space, allowing a couple of fast growing crops to be cultivated.

WBJ Day 4 Bonus Edition

Timeline Madness!

The Invasion mentioned in the main history post, states the invaders disappeared, which is only a half truth. From the history books, this is precisely what happened, but in truth, a Great Mage from the Twilight Assembly (will be detailed on day 8 and 16) attempted to cast a wish spell, that would have put the defenders at great advantage over the invaders, but the spell was interrupted during its casting, which nudged the Mage and the entirety of the invading fleet out of step with the natural universe, able to see the world and interact almost imperceptibly with the real, but unable to be witnessed. 

The invading force is still on and orbiting Thoelor! 

Over time they’ve been able to interact through agents of a sort, machine’s some of their strongest Mages have been able to possess, and are working towards trying to get back into the real world, but the Great Mage is still fighting against them, utilising similar strategies to get people in the real to still fight for the cause.

WBJ Day 3 Late Bonus Edition

Due to time difference with myself and ladytabletop, the Bonus editions may be posted a day later, as a guy’s gotta sleep!

Wearables

Focusing on one average citizen, we see her wearing the latest in utilitarian fashion. This may seem like opposites, but when living in a city where everyone must prove their worth, working hard is the in thing.

To begin with, a standard workshirt, coloured red, a personal flourish. Hard wearing black trousers with reinforced knees, with additional loops and pockets for tools and small parts, currently holding a socket wrench and set of screwdrivers. Over the shirt, a short black jacket, with a red stripe going diagonally from right shoulder to bottom left, designed to be attached directly to the trousers allowing protection from dusts, sparks and other particles when working. On the jacket, on the right shoulder, is the logo of the group she works with, a prestigious group, working on designs for the latest affordable air vehicles.

For most citizens, the main colour of their jackets are chosen by their work group as a uniform, with new companies having to check the registry to ensure their design doesn’t match another group. Secondary colour, or colours, are used to denote industry, with red being used to denote vehicle manufacturers and maintenance. From the outside, (i.e. us looking into this fictional world) it looks like their jackets are patterned after horse racing jockeys.

WBJ Day 2 Bonus Edition

The Creation Story

The world is believed to have been touched upon by a number of God’s, each influencing the solar systems growth. To begin with, the elemental deities brought the universe into being. (Creating atoms and setting in motion the universe in a similar fashion to the big bang.) Following this, the other deities started to push and influence the universe to their liking, bringing their ideals into being, experimenting on bringing various forms of proto life into being.

After some time, the god of Law, (name comes later), started to organise a number of other deities to create organised structured life, but these early attempts failed. It wasn’t until the god of Chaos, (name comes later), got involved, did these attempts succeed, with early, less evolved versions of current species appearing on Thoelor. (DNA creation, life able to evolve and grow by itself, not that it stops the gods from just creating a new species for the fun of it!)

Bonus to the Bonus! The Roetenin’s creation!

Roetenin were created by the god of magic, (name comes later), who after seeing sentient life start their early forays into manipulating magic, decided that they could do with something found in the natural world to inspire and guide them, so the early Roetenin were created. These beings where smaller, but could change their abilities at will, unlike currently. These creatures were found rarely appearing all over the world, but we’re soon captured and bred by numerous casters, and over time, these domesticated Roetenin lost their ability to change at will, but could still change when influenced by magic, leading to the enchanted stones used on them today.

Some of the early Roetenin can still be found in the world, occasionally spawned by (unnamed magic god) to bring some excitement to collectors, but when bred in captivity, they only produce the newer domesticated Roetenin.

WBJ Day 8 Bonus Edition

The Passing of Power

In Dolinde, for leader, term of office last for 4 years, but there is no fixed amount of terms you can serve. As long as popular vote is there, they can stay, but when the vote changes, the current leader has a month to finish affairs and allow the new leader into office, generally working together so the new leader can get up to speed.

The council’s on the other hand, have a vote for change in membership every year, to allow fresh faces and new ideas in. Terms generally last a few years, and it’s seen as a respectable position.

Before Dolinde became multicultural, the Orcs would fight for leadership, with many a former leader losing their life during the fight, but these duels were gradually stopped, as the wisdom of previous leaders was seen to be a good thing to keep around, and this brought the voting system into place.
