loki: *arrives on earth and instantly gets kidnapped*
Odin: I thought we could unite our kingdoms one day, bring about an alliance. Bring about a lasting peace, though you.
Loki: ... What? So I'm just another foreign stolen relic placed here until you may find use for me?!
2021, with complete confirmation that Loki is intersex and pansexual: So... What you are saying is... Loki felt humiliated that Odin's main motivation for scooping him up from Jotunheim was because he thought he'd make a cute bride for Thor.
Loki's supernova-level of rage wasn't simply because he was adopted, but because he'd spent so long feeling that his feelings for his brother were unnatural and learning so late that he was adopted meant he endured hundreds of years of private anguish for no reason.
BUT ALSO since kidnapping a baby to be a bride for Thor is exactly the sort of selfish, entitled A+ Parenting that made Loki hate his spoiled brother, he'd never concede to being Thor's bride just to spite their entitlement.
AND ALSO, there isn't any viable way Loki could ever truly explain this to Thor because he'd either agree with Loki and insist they were brothers, ruining any romantic prospects Loki could have with him. Or he would agree with Odin, furthering the ridiculous entitlement of Odin's original plan.
So with absolutely no way to reconcile this mountain of bullshit, Loki's way of processing it has been to point a doomsday weapon at Jotunheim, repeatedly stab Thor and tell him they weren't brothers, invade New York and become a king in his own right, and fake his death a couple times to see if Thor would properly mourn him.
And after six years of Thor saying he'll never stop loving his cute little brother no matter how quarrelsome he is, Loki gave up on ever telling Thor exactly what set him off so badly in the first place since it technically never happened and he already has Thor's unconditional love.
Love is a dagger, indeed.
Loki is such a little shit but we love him anyway.
"problematic" on main
