Harris on the issues
Pro-LGBT; pro-women; pro-environment. She co-sponsored thebill to remove the "gay panic" and "trans panic" defense incriminal violence cases in 2014. Before that, she fought against Prop 8. She'sworked solidly for reproductive rights and sued predatory colleges that scampeople out of federal loan money. She's against the death penalty, and hasgotten flak for refusing to seek it in some cases.
She's asked tough questions people in front of Senatecommittees, and gotten pushback that white men don't get. (Got told to "bemore polite;" gets called "hysterical" by news media.) Herpresidential campaign refuses to accept donation from corporate PACs.
Wikipediapage - She complained at FEMA for not supporting Puerto Rico after Maria,fought for funding to improve voting technology and security, and works for enforcementof environmental laws.
Cons: She's big on law enforcement, which means she's lighton prosecuting cops. She's not trying to eliminate prisons, although she isworking to reduce the factors that result in so many people of color gettingsent to prison.
If Harris were nominated, I’d want pressure on her to fight against police racism and corruption as hard as she fights against other kinds of discrimination.
Klobuchar on theissues
Pro-LGBT; pro-women; pro-consumer; pro-net-neutrality. Votedto reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act; wants to prohibit employmentdiscrimination by sexual orientation; wants comprehensive immigration reform.
She's worked on consumer protection laws that many see asbeing caught up in tiny details. Has a law degree; understands that law isfucking complicated and that small shifts in phrasing can have a big impacton citizens. She knows how to get things done - has sponsored or co-sponsored over100 bills that became law.
Wikipediapage - She strongly supports the nonprofit sector, has worked to uncoverand prevent sexual assault in the military, and has won awards for her work forconsumer protection, including on the internet.
Cons: Also big on prosecution, and has a rep for being anirrationally angry boss. (I don't know how much of that is hype that wouldn'tbe mentioned if she were a man.) More centrist than I like; OTOH, support from agricultural industries is not, in itself, a bad thing.
If Klobuchar were nominated, I’d want pressure on her to overhaul the student loan system and look into the numbers on Medicare for all; right now, she doesn’t think we can afford it.
