A follow-up video to Part 1 (obviously) where Thor Drake goes deeper on the builders and their bikes that made the show so fucking awesome! Great imagery and commentary that adds a lot of color to the experience. Pure joy.

There are things that you know you shouldn't do, I find myself time and time again gravitating towards those things. someone once said its better to regret the things you’ve done rather than the regret the things you would have done. Now… in this particular situation I dont regret what I did, its actually what I should have done that I regret. lending itself to the perfect storm of regret in not doing something, and not doing something I should have done. Pretty confusing?!, basically what this all means is... I shouldn't have jumped my Ducati Monster. There is a reason why you don't see a lot of Ducatis flying through space. These Ducs don't fly.
The other day I called up big buddy Ray Gordon. (For those not familiar, he is one hell of a good photographer.) I asked if he wanted to go take some pictures of some goofy motorcycle antics. More or less a reason to go ride bikes and hang with Ray. Our plan was to go east, I sent him one of those photos you see where there is a guy on a bike way off in the distance with a trail of dust behind him. This was our inspiration. Ray and I wanted to get away from the “guy jumping” formula we usually stick too.
We found an interesting field, maybe the place of some homesteaders old farmhouse. It was a big open field on the side of a hill next to a dried up creek. Not perfect but interesting enough. We tried a couple shots with no luck, I looked at Ray and said should we just build a jump? Duh! yes.
As I piled up a little dirt mound, Ray chimed in. “Check out your digging style, you're like a groundhog on speed!” I guess I have done my fair share of digging in my day, I don't F around!
I jumped it about 6 times before I started to hear this awful sound, it was like bones breaking. I looked down and noticed my foot pegs had snapped off the mounting bracket. I asked Ray if he got something he said, “Yeah I think we are good, don't want you to push your luck.”
I noticed some oil sprinkles all over the left side of the bike. A quick inspection, it was just the engine breather. NOPE. We figured out what had gone wrong when I was unloading the bike. Arune from the local Ducati store happened to be at my shop. I told him about the days events and he said “thats not your breather you have a crack in the motor. The footpeg mount had cracked in two places and I had completely destroyed the motor. I figured if I made the bike look like a duel-sport it would be ok off road. What I didn't figure is that the motor which is part of the stress member in the frame would become the stressed member. I guess in hindsight I would have braced the motor better, or maybe not jumped, or done a million other things different.
Bottom line: turns out Ducs can't fly.

*HIPSTER ALERT* Ray Gordon and crew are back at it again! You call this working, Ray? Fucksake. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes film Ray shot with friends from Stetson, Hurst Racing Tires, and a couple of my favorite people in the world– Thor Drake, and Tori George at See See Motor Coffee.
