ReverieTale: A Blind Seer's Vision
Hello and welcome to my little corner of crazy. @0p1er0 asked me to make an insane Sans for a fic they wanna write so I cooked this little lad for them. Can't wait to see what you do with my broken, unhinged child ❤️
Also here's a crudely drawn comic I didn't feel like cleaning up.
ReverieTale: A Blind Seer's Vision, is a standalone horror AU based around Sans descent into madness after the tragic demise of his brother. It's environment and timeline is similar to the original Undertale with one key deviation, Frisk does not fall into the Underground. No, the 7th human to fall is an adult, armed with a handgun and terrified of the monster's he find's himself surround by. It's this man that empties the Ruins out of fear, his carnage only being stopped at the exit of the ruins when he encounters Sans. He's able to dodge the shots, but the noise brings Papyrus into the scene. Papyrus being the kind soul he is tries to sooth the shooter, but with Sans finally still from the distraction and distress of Papyrus joining the fray, the shooter takes another shot at him. It misses Sans, but only because Papyrus jumps in the way. Papyrus lays in Sans arms apologizes for leaving him early before slow crumbling into dust. Sans turns to the man, meeting the barrel of gun pointed at his cranium. Filled with hate and despair Sans begins to charge up a devastating attack, but before either of them can react, Undyne and the rest of the Royal Guard come running in. Startled by Undyne's loud cry the man unintentionally squeezes the trigger on the gun, the shot ringing out in the chilled cavern as Sans falls limp into the dust of his brother. When Seer awakes he's hooked up in the Hotland Lab being treated by Alphys, a drip of PERSEREVERANCE extracted from human souls stabilizing him.
With 7 human souls the barrier is broken, but even seeing the sun for the first time isn't enough to replace Papyrus or relieve his guilt.
After the death of his brother, his delusions started, just simple glimpses at first, but soon they manifested into full images of his brother. His mind has been damaged by is head trauma, and while the sliver of rational he has left tells him it is wrong, that Papyrus is gone, he doesn't want to believe it. He can't. Beacuse what would even be the point if Paps was gone? So he does the one thing he never really thought he would turn to. Spirituality. His scientific beliefs falling away to be replaced with pseudo science that filled his new need to not be alone. For his brother to not be truly gone. Papyrus was still here, it was just that only Sans could see him.
Sans began to follow Undyne around, a lot. At first she let it slide, thinking he was just grieving and needed someone to be around since he's always had Papyrus, but was now alone. But then the comments started. At first it was a subtle pretense changes when talking about Papyrus, going from past tense to present tense when talking about him. Then it changed to actively narrating Papyrus's reactions and thoughts. Devolving further into subtle comments about how Papyrus wishes Undyne could see him. Undyne would try and sympathetically correct Sans, saying that his brother was gone, but Sans would turn that pitying look back upon Undyne, as if it genuinely saddened him that she couldn't see Papyrus. After continuous denials though that Papyrus wasn't there, Sans would become silent, his smile straining in silent anger.
Eventually he decided he needed to enlighten Undyne, and prove that Papyrus was still here. One day he asked to talk to her in the private of her home. He talked as if he was apologizing to Undyne for having to deal with his delusions, and thanking her for tolerating him. He then asked her to close her eyes so he could give her a gift for putting up with him. Thinking Sans might have finally overcome this phase she does as asked. But once she closes her eyes Sans injects a sedative into her neck. She tries to defend herself but the sedative quickly knocks her out. With her unconscious Sans tries to open her third eye, slicing and peeling an eye shape out of the skin of her forehead. His head trauma had awaken his own third eye enabling him to see Papyrus, so why not try something similar for Undyne?
She'll later wake up screaming in pain from the inflicted wound. Filled with just anger, Undyne confronts Sans. Upon seeing her, Sans smiles wider, asking if she can finally see Papyrus. She screams no at him, shoving and pinning him to a wall, glowing spear pressed threateningly to his neck. Sans rationalizes that he did something wrong, and that's why she can't see Papyrus. He offers to try again, but this further enrages her. Undyne then goes on a rant on how fucked up and crazy Sans is now, how his brother is dead and never coming back, how he needs to stop this stupid joke because it isn't funny and is disrespecting Papyrus's image.
Hurt, angered, and confused by her words Sans gets triggered and fights Undyne, demanding she take her words back. Being the stubborn and determined person she is, she refuses, and a fight ensues. They fight for a good while, but with Sans lower stamina, and his hole not doing anything to help with containing his magic, Sans is quick to fall to a knee, exhausted. He begs her, tears dripping down his sockets to see Papyrus, but she remains firm and stony. She says, "All I see is a sad broken thing, lost in the trenches of his mind. You need help Sans, and we'll get it to you." Before she can clonk him on the side of the head and knock him out, he uses the very last of his reserves to teleport away.
He deems Undyne too blind as he flees. Clearly she'd never see his bro. But that's okay, he's a patient guy, and he knows he can find Papyrus some new friends that'll just love him.

Seer Sans

Mental State: Severely fractured. Displays dissociative tendencies, persistent hallucinations (Papyrus), and delusional fixations. Swings between gentle mystic and volatile preacher.
Trauma Origin: Witnessed Papyrus’s brutal death and was shot in the head moments later. Survived, but suffered irreparable psychological and magical damage.
Abilities & Traits
“Third Eye” Ability: Believes the bullet hole in his forehead is an awakened spiritual eye. Claims it allows him to see Papyrus’s spirit.
Delusion-Based Magic: His magic warps according to belief. Teleports unpredictably, conjures visions of Papyrus. Fights are chaotic, surreal, and often hallucinatory to the opponent.
Persistence: Incredibly patient—he’ll wait days, weeks, or years to “enlighten” you. If you reject him now, he'll try again later.
Spiritual Manipulation: Uses charm, sorrow, and calm tones to lure others in. Not violent by default, but will “do what he must” if you resist “seeing.”
Personality
Dominant Traits:
Gentle voice, soft demeanor
Eerie smiles that never fade
Space-invading presence
Patient to a disturbing degree
Severely disassociated but driven by love
Speech Style: Calm, meandering, spiritual metaphors. Often refers to his brother mid-conversation, even if no one else is present.
Relationships
Papyrus (deceased): Sees him constantly. Talks to him aloud. Believes he’s still alive spiritually.
Undyne: Former friend turned tragic rival. Tried to Institutionalize Seer after he attacked her in an attempt to “help her see.”
Other Papyruses (AUs): Believes they’re all Papyrus—“just playing dress-up.” They can persuade, calm, or command him.
Other Characters:
Those who play along and “talk to Papyrus” are safe (for a while).
Skeptics are seen as “unawakened” and targeted for enlightenment should Seer deem them friend worthy.
Visuals & Clothing
General Aesthetic: Viby Hippie, casual, spiritual
Outfit: Baggy pants, loosely buttoned shirt, and a flowing tattered shawl or robe that. A charm necklace.
Face/Eye Details: Bullet hole “third eye” in forehead, often glowing faintly, especially when agitated. Tiny, twitchy pupils. Wide, unreadable grin.
Lore-Specific Details
Trophy Habit: Keeps a token from each “friend” Papyrus makes (usually deceased victims). Keeps them in his dimensional box. Particularly special ones jet added to his necklace. People don't always survive Seer's attempts to awaken them, but that's okay, clearly Papyrus wanted them with him more, so Seer will just collect a memento to remember them by.
Magic “Leaks”: Due to his cranial damage, his magic is unstable—Short cuts are no longer reliable. His bone summons are manifested with cracks and are brittle. upon breaking they turn into dust that manifests as Seer's delusions. Often being shaped like Papyrus. While distracting on it's own, the dust can also blind if it gets into one's eyes.
Haunted Spaces: Environments where Seer stays grow warped—his magic is constantly leaking, soaking into the environment he routinely stays in. People who enter spaces permeated with Seer's magic swear they can occasionally see another taller skeleton monster, fueling Seer's beliefs.
Likes and Dislikes
Likes
His brother. He has a deep brotherly love for his sibling and just wants to make it up to him for failing him in life.
Soy sauce and sriracha. They're a good addition to any snack, or by themselves.
Pho or Ramen with beef, mushrooms, and extra noodles (the noodles are for paps)
Being listened too/believed. Anyone who'll listen to him gush about how cool his bro is is good in his books. Bonus if they believe him about Papyrus. He thinks they have great friend potential
Collecting trinkets of friends who've joined Papyrus.
Making friends for Papyrus. He genuinely believes he's helping them for the better, regardless of the outcome. One way or another they'll end up seeing Papyrus.
Any alternate Papyrus that looks physically similar enough to his bro. That's just his bro playing dress up. Papyrus is quirky like that.
Dislikes
Deceivers. Anyone who tries to lie to him about seeing his bro have earned a fast track to Seer's wrath. They're no longer friend worthy, but they'll certainly will be seeing his brother. (Seer will summon a cloud of dust to manifest illusions of Papyrus to torment the offender)
People telling him he's crazy or that Papyrus isn't real. He's patient so he'll give you time to come to your senses and believe him, but continuously deny him and he'll be forced to attempt to awaken you the hard way. Unless you're not friend material, then he'll avoid you, but choose to persist anyway and he'll silence you, permanently.
Seeing more than one Papyrus at a time. It challenges his belief and he can't handle it. If there's more one Papyrus in a room at a time his attention will bounce around them, acting as if they are all one person jumping from one spot and outfit to another. It's confusing and he doesn't like it. It very uncool of his brother to play tricks on him like that. Forced into a position where he has to acknowledge more than one at a time though, and he'll slip into a panic attack, reliving his bro's demise, or going into a violent fit to get rid of the 'delusions'
Grapefruits and persimmons. They are horrible and disgusting fruit. Clearly anyone who enjoys and willingly consumes such abominations are crazy. Seer does not want to befriend those kinds of people.
Tight fitting clothes. Everything needs to be loose and freeing. He does not do well feeling restrained.
Pointing out any flaws in his logic or hypocrisy. Seer is perfectly sane thank you. And his logic is flawless.
