You loved Christmas time. You've lived with the avengers since you were ten. You were kidnapped by Hydra and rescued by the avengers. Thor was the one to find you. Since then you have become very attached to him, and whenever he is on earth you don't leave his side. He came to earth just in time for Christmas which he has never celebrated.

You ran outside just in time for Thor to land. You smiled running to hug him. Everyone noticed how much happy you got when Thor was around. He was like a dad to you, seeing as you never had one. You smiled up at the good.

"Tomorrow is Christmas!" You told him smiling.

"Who is this Chris miss?" He asked genuinely confused.

"No it's a holiday!" You explained.

"Oh! Okay! Well how do we celebrate it?" Thor asks you as you grab his hand. He always feels bad leaving for long periods of time because he knows how you get.

"Well Tony is throwing a party later, I want to bake cookies, we can watch Christmas movies! Uh... Tomorrow we get to open presents!" You told him excitedly.

"Sounds like a blast." Thor smiles.

You were in the kitchen happily decorating cookies. Thor sat by you, he was still confused as to what Christmas was so you telling him whole the two of you decorated cookies. Nat came in and decorated a cookie too but she had to leave to go to the airport since she's spending Christmas with Clint and his family. Tony came in just to tell you to clean up after yourselves. Thor was enjoying himself decorating the cookies. Though he didn't really understand the concept of candy canes or Santa claus. So he was decorating those ones.

"Most people celebrate Christmas because they're religious, other celebrate it as just an excuse to spend time together. The holiday is to celebrate Jesus' birth." You explained not looking up from the cookies.

"Oh.. Then where did the Santa man come from?" Thor asked confused.

"He delivers presents to everyone! Only if you're good though."

"Hmm okay. So what about the tree?"

"To be honest? I don't really know where that originated from."

"Hmm. Maybe I should get one for asgard!"

"Well after Christmas most people take them down. But some people keep fake trees up all year." You stated putting the last cookie on the tray.

"Oh! Well M'lady it looks like we're done with cookies! We should get ready for the party."

When you first met Thor it made you laugh at how little he knew about Earth, he introduced you to Asgardian culture and in return he asked to be shown the way Midgard worked. He was intrigued by your holidays and how you celebrated.

During his first year on Earth you had managed to introduce him to Halloween and Thanksgiving. Before Christmas came about Thor was summoned back to Asgard to help deal with a Loki situation, so when he returned nearly a year later he was confused by the ornaments that surrounded your home, “What do these even do?” Was the first thing he asked when he entered your home. “They do nothing, it’s the same as Halloween we waste time putting decorations up to make the house look pretty and then you place presents under the tree for your friends and family.”

Once Thor had inspected the presents under the tree, he was happy to only see names he knew he didn’t have to worry about a possible romantic partner. “So I don’t see my name under there, is there a reason for that?” He questioned. “Well you disappeared for a year with no contact so I assumed you’d be staying gone so I didn’t want to waste wrapping paper, your gift is sitting in my dresser unwrapped.” You told the God. “So what do I need to learn about this holiday?” He asked with a hopeful smile.

“Right first things first we need to go shopping, you’ve gone teammates you need to buy gifts for. Once we’ve done that we can wrap them and then I can show you the easier parts of the holiday season.” You quickly grabbed your coat and began putting your shoes on, “Follow me.” With that Thor and yourself entered the craziness that is New York at Christmas. “Why are the streets so much busier than normal?” The man questioned confused. “Well it’s Christmas people need to shop for others. It gets crazy at this time of year.” You explained with a laugh “Well that’s ridiculous why don’t people do it at different times?” He questioned again. “Well that’s what people do, but it’s still busy because thousands of people come out to buy stuff. Now where should we go to get Tony a present?” You asked whilst dragging Thor along.

Soon enough Thor had picked out presents for the entire team, “So what do I do now, just give them the stuff?” The Asgardian asked, “No, now we need to wrap everything that you’ve brought like on a birthday so it can be a surprise” You told him as you moved around the city to show the man how Christmas worked.

“This is an ice skating rink. They put it out at Christmas to get people excited for the cold weather and the warm nights . We can put these presents down and give it a try if you want?” You were hopeful he would participate as the other Avengers didn’t enjoy Christmas and had all refused to come out with you. “Will it be easy?” He questioned with slight fear in his eyes. “Depends on how steady you are, come on.” With that you began pulling him towards the rink.

Thor was surprisingly good at skating but he was fearful about your safety as he knew how clumsy you were, “Darling don’t go so fast, I won’t be able to catch you if you lose balance.” The man said, watching you in admiration and slight fear. “No need to worry Thor, I’ve got years of practice behind me.”

Eventually the blonde decided he had enough of skating and he forced you off the rink and back to your apartment. “See it’s not that bad. It’s one of the most entertaining holidays we’ve got.” You told him hoping he’d agree, “Honey, we just spent thousands on stuff that nobody really needs. How is that not bad?” Thor stated, still confused by the point of this holiday. “I told you it’s the season of giving, we give the people we care about presents to show we appreciate everything they do for us. The more you love and appreciate someone the more sentimental their presents will be.” You told him once again hoping this time he understood. “I just don’t get why we have to buy everyone we know a present. Like the Spiderling, I barely know the child and I’ve just spent hundreds getting him a science kit.” He continued with a frown, “Well my love, the boys saved your life and covered your back multiple times in missions so you should appreciate him.”

Once Thor had finished complaining about the cost of presents and wrapped them with your assistance, you made him decorate a gingerbread house and catch up on the movies he’d missed. “So how long until I can give you the present I bought you?” He asked with excitement in his tone. “Well tomorrow morning you can come back over and give it to me then. Then we can make dinner and enjoy the day.” The God wasn’t happy with the idea of you waking up alone, “I won’t be leaving your sofa is enough for me, we’re waking up together and booking breakfast. Then we can open our presents with that silly music playing and enjoy our day together. You said Christmas is about being together.” You knew he wouldn’t leave you by yourself so you agreed to his terms.

“Goodnight Thor see you in the morning, you better not be a Grinch.”

The next morning you awoke to breakfast in bed courtesy of Thor, “Now hurry up and eat so we can open our presents.” You couldn’t help the smile that spread across your face, the man was like a kid at Christmas.

“So the food is finished now, what is it that you're so desperate to give me?” You asked excitedly, “I’m hoping you like it.” You didn’t know what you expected when you opened your present, it certainly wasn’t what was in the box. “Thor what is this?” You were confused as to why he was so excited to give you this, “In Asgard it’s traditional for the person you're courting to wear your colours, so I got this hoodie made from my Asgardian garments so you could not only wear my colours but also a piece of me. You said the more you care about someone the more sentimental the present is.” Thor explained blushing, “Thor thank you so much, now open my present.” You handed him your gift nervous he wouldn’t like what you got him after his thoughtful gift. “Darling this is beautiful, can you put it on for me please.” He asked with a smile. “What made you get me this darling?”

You had brought Thor a ring with the date you met carved into it and the first time the two went on a mission alone. “Tony bought me a necklace with the date I joined the team for my birthday and it made me think I wanted something to remember the first time I met you so I got the date added onto the necklace and then I remembered you saying you wanted something to remember our first mission.” You said with a nervous smile, “I love it darling.” He pulled you in for a hug

“Also what do you mean courting?” You asked him with a smile, “Well I kind of assumed we were courting, I mean you let me stay here you show me how midgard works and we go on those dates.” The God explained nervously about how you’d react, “Merry Christmas my love.” You gave him a kiss which was the best present you both received.

Into Darkness [Chapter One] Petrichor [Loki]

Summary: Born in Vanaheim, a realm associated with nature and magic, Asta Skírnisdóttir has always felt like she's never belonged. When she is ready, her father, Skírnir, a vassal of the fertility God Freyr, takes her to Asgard on a brief task where she meets Thor and Loki.

Upon a favor from Odin, to which she must retrieve the 'Chest of Strength', an artifact containing a mystical mirror that reflects the true aspects of the soul, she learns about her hazy past and the connection she has to the dark elves of Svartalfheim.

A/n: This is my first attempt at a Marvel story. The updates are going to be slow, so be patient, please. This story is heavily inspired by Nose Mythology, the MCU, and the comics. There might be facts I mess up so I apologize. Please enjoy.

Skírnir, a sturdy man with fair hair knitted in 3 braids, tramped into the thick woodland, leaving impressions on the earth, soft from the heavy rain of the night before. In the glade ahead he halted to take in the petrichor of the forest. Its soothing fragrance made his tattooed skin tingle, but he was in too much of a hurry to appreciate it. 

With a heavy sigh, he darted his keen dark eyes across the meadow. Drops of water shifted the blades of grass but otherwise, the glade was still. The deer that occasionally made this area their feeding ground were bed down somewhere nearby, a sign that Freyr, God of rain and fertility, had plans to bring more showers. 

So what was she doing out here so early?

Skírnir stood and listened. Above the wind he heard a silvery voice, recognizing it as belonging to her. The tune she sang was familiar; one that he had heard eons ago on Midgard, the abode of mankind, though he knew that she hadn't heard it there, most likely her mother - who unfortunately passed - considering she never left the realm, not as he often did in the service of his Lord, Freyr. 

He tramped toward the voice, coming to a halt beneath a large ash tree, and found her on a low branch with her stained maple wood bow resting in her lap. Her thin braided hair was dark, unlike his own, and fell down her back in a mess as she leaned against the trunk with her eyes on the meadow, albeit unwary as she didn't notice him approaching her. 

"Asta! Did you not hear me calling you?!" Skírnir asked in an assertive tone.

The woman in question suddenly paused and glanced down at the wall of a man. His dark eyes were narrowed, but he didn't appear to be annoyed with her. Despite his sturdy, muscular physique, he was lenient when it came to her. 

Sliding her bowstring over her shoulder, Asta descended the ash tree, careful not to dirty her linen tunic and apron. The glass beads across her chest attached to brass oval brooches on her apron, swung like a cord as she planted her feet on the ground. 

"Forgive me, Father. I was lost in thought."

As she always was, he noted.

Skírnir saw the hunting knife attached to her leather belt and raised a scarred brow. 

"Hunting were you? A day after a heavy storm."

"I am not daft," she retorted with a huff. "The deer are smart. They sense that rain is coming and their activity is altered."

Skírnir guffawed in pride, having taught her about deer and their patterns when she was old enough to shoot a bow.

"A fine observation."

He saw the grief in her blue-gray eyes and narrowed his own. Her feelings were something he as a father took notice of but was uncomfortable discussing. If only her mother were still alive; the reason for Asta's grief no doubt, as her memory of the woman was shrouded in confusion. Resting a heavy hand on her shoulder, he sighed deeply. 

"Come. Let us return. I have something to ask you," Skírnir ordered. 

Asta raised her brow and followed him from the glade. Her grief remained, but she was eager to know what her father had to ask of her.

"The time has come for Prince Thor to inherit the throne of Asgard. His coronation ceremony is in a month during Skerpla (May to June)," Skírnir brought up.

"Is Lord Odin ill?" Asta asked in interest. 

She hated to think that he was dying, though the aspect of death was not something she assumed the All-father feared, considering in death he'd be granted passage to the halls of Valhalla where he would live forever in paradise. 

"No… But he is aged," Skírnir answered briefly. "And as the eldest, Prince Thor is fated by the Norns to take his place as ruler of the Æsir."

Asta didn't know what to say. She had never met either of Odin's sons; Thor and Loki, but she had heard tales of them from Hogun the Grim, a member of the Warriors Three - along with Lady Sif - who often accompanied Thor. The Vanir warrior showed respect for the Prince and never spoke rudely of him. 

She supposed he would make for a decent king, but she wasn't sure why her father was mentioning this to her. There was only one reason she could think of. 

"Are you… Leaving again?"

Skírnir pushed aside brush from the path and chuckled; drops of water fell onto Asta's head as she passed, following close. 

"I am not certain. Lord Freyr is sending me to Asgard this morning to confirm his attendance at the coronation, but often Lord Odin has a task for me."

Asta was aware. He along with his Gambanteinn, a magic wand, and the Sword of Freyr had done many favors for the All-father, being that he was a crafty vassal. As a child she recalled him leaving weeks at a time, the longest being a fortnight.

"I want you to go with me, should I have to go away again," Skírnir mentioned. 

Her eyes widened. 

"You jest." 

Her father guffawed. He peered at her over his shoulder and found her shocked expression humorous.

"I do not. It is time you joined me. There is more to the Nine Realms than Vanaheim."

Asta felt much better. This news was astounding. She smiled cheerfully and quickened her pace until she was walking side by side with her father. She could not believe that he was finally allowing her to leave Vanaheim. 

"Does this mean I too can go with you to Asgard?"

Skírnir hummed. He wasn't sure about taking her to the palace, considering she was not expected, but he supposed if she remained outside then Lord Odin wouldn't mind her sudden presence. It would be interesting to see if Heimdall, the Gatekeeper of Asgard, would open the Bifrost to her, knowing this.

"Very well," Skírnir uttered. "But you must do whatever I tell you. Do you understand?"

"When do I not?" Asta argued. 

An assertive look from her father made her grin. 

"I understand."

 

Skírnir deeply sighed. He wasn't sure this was a good idea. But he was pleased that Asta was in a better mood. 

She hurried through the thick foliage and passed the treeline into the village where she was born. A small river cut through the clearing connecting to a larger river further northwest of them, providing farmers with an adequate ecosystem to raise livestock and grow crops. Her home, a wooden house with a thatched roof sat closest to the forest, not as big as the longhouse the chief, and the families who worked for him lived in, but just as pleasant, considering her father built it.

Njord's temple, the home of the Vanir ruler, was beyond the forest to the east, a place Asta rarely visited alone. 

She slowed her pace and sauntered to the side of the house where burned into the ground was a mark of the Bifrost, a circular pattern branded with runes. Her father used this landing site often to avoid leaving scorch marks around the village. He soon joined her.

"Are you eager?" Skírnir asked with a grin. 

Asta gripped her bowstring and agreed with a nod. However, her chest was tight with anxiety. The idea of a new realm, one quite different from the vast woodlands of Vanaheim that she was familiar with frightened her a bit. Then there was the Bifrost. Her father told her very little about it besides the fact it was like a bridge that allowed instantaneous travel within the Nine Realms; he claimed that it was rather intense.

"I have never traveled by Bifrost before. It is something to be eager about," she uttered, answering his question. 

"We shall see how you feel about it after we arrive in Asgard," Skírnir retorted. 

A feeling of dread turned her stomach. Asta took a deep and uneasy breath, attempting to calm her nerves. 

"You tease. It can not be that unpleasant." 

Skírnir grinned and glanced at the sky, leaving her statement unanswered.

"Heimdall! Open the Bifrost!"

A radiant beam of multicolored light shot down from the sky and consumed them. The petrichor of the forest soon faded away, replaced by the sweet and pungent smell of ozone.

The lights change; flickering red and white as you travel through the space tunnel, strapped to a metal chair. You cannot move, nor close your eyes as the lights dance brightly even behind your closed eyelids. The mechanic-sounding female voice doesn’t help soothe your upcoming panic attack. It’s a trip, and not a good one.

“You are now meeting the Grandmaster!”

A ride on a rollercoaster, sprinkled with a nasty LSD blotter is exactly how you’d describe this if someone would ask. No, put that rollercoaster in a huge club with flashing lights and Techno music, the bad kind, and that is how you’d describe it.

You squeeze your eyes shut as dizziness overcomes you, and you inhale sharply to breathe away the nausea. You’re hyperventilating and you don’t know if you’re about to cry or throw up.

But then everything stops altogether, and the high-pitched screaming next to you fades out. You crack one eye open and you’re met with people, strange people, staring at you. You look to your right. It’s Thor. He was the one screaming.

“Thor?”

He looks over to you and relief washes over his face for a split-second before he strains against his own handcuffs.

“They’re wonderful. What are they? Male and female?”

You look back at the strange man, dripping with flamboyance. The Grandmaster you presume. He does look oddly in charge here. You blink nervously, still affected by your bad trip.

“Yes, they are.”, the female next to him answers. You recognize her as your capturer, that bitch. The way they start a nonchalant conversation makes your blood boil, but they manage to distract you from your upcoming panic attack at least.

“Psst, Y/N”

You look back at Thor, again trying to break free from his chair. His biceps flex and the veins in his neck pulsate as he struggles. You don’t even try to break free; if a literal God cannot get out of here, how could you?

“What?”, you ask, and your voice sounds awful. Husky and small.

“Just stay calm, I’ll get us out of here”, Thor whispers towards you, but his deep voice could barely be considered as a whisper. You quirk an eyebrow at him, you are calm now, unlike him.

“Can you take us closer? Look at this”, the Grandmaster says, snapping his fingers as the large woman pushes his chair towards you and the God of Thunder. He looks at you like a child in a chocolate factory, all giddy and excited. The glint in his eyes as he examines both you and Thor makes your skin crawl, but you’re unable to speak.

“Pay this lady”, he commands, raising a blue-painted fingernail as he points at your capturer, Scrapper 142.

“Now wait a damn minute!” Thor is breathing heavy as he finally raises his voice. “We are not for sale!”, he warns through clenched teeth as he struggles once again to break free. Only this time, he succeeds, somehow. The heavy bracelets stuck to the armrests of his chair come free, and you almost yelp with excitement as the hope for a swift escape presents itself in front of you.

But your excitement is short-lived as 142 raises the remote control with a smug smile, quickly reminding you of the small devices she had previously planted on both your necks when she captured you. They both activate simultaneously.

You groan as your jaw clenches shut, and all muscles in your body convulse while electricity shoots through you mercilessly. You’re aware that it affects you more than Thor, but they aren’t. And all you hear is their nasty chuckle as you finally lose consciousness.
