the galaxy was far more vast than anyone could ever truly know or expect ; that fact was proven again and again. only those who ventured out, who really took it upon themselves to grab hold of the mysteries of the planets and stars and discover unexplored territories would ever have a full understanding. rey --- the girl left ABANDONED on jakku, a nowhere planet, a planet full of thieves and barters and junk --- was one of the unlucky ones when it came to exploring. the rebellion had been her first opportunity to really venture out, having never left jakku after her parents’ disappearance. flying came easy to her, thanks to the data chip she scavenged that allowed her to play with a flight simulator.
her experience with the guardians was another thing entirely.
a talking tree and raccoon led a spacial escapade that was other-worldly. they passed planets of many kinds ; some with vibrant colors, some with soft hues, and some completely destroyed. the guardians had far more experience with space travel than she, so rather than taking a front seat on the ship, she tended to hide in the background, only really speaking up if she was spoken to first. if it weren’t for thor, she would probably be ignored altogether.
a nightmare had woken her from her slumber. it was filled with dirt and sweat and BLOOD and left her feeling like she’d been punched in the gut. she’d watched herself die again, and it had caused her to rise from her bed with unshed tears in her eyes. her instincts led her to thor, who was sitting in the cockpit. she told him of her nightmare and how she’d witnessed her own demise. the words that fell from her mouth were of pure desperation ------ ( ‘ promise me i won’t die here. ‘ )
his reply brings her some comfort, but she can’t shake the feeling of impending doom. flashes of palpatine and ben haunt her dreams, an unending saga of visions depicting her worst nightmares. they weren’t a new occurrence --- they had appeared, at times, ever since the battle at exegol. ever since she’d boarded the guardians’ ship, they had come in full force.
“ i can’t stop thinking about it, “ she confesses, wanting to look away from his impenetrable gaze but fighting against it, “ it’s . . . haunting me. “
softly, almost a whisper, “ ------ i can’t lose you too. “
