Bread’s Game Journal 05/23/20: Lets Talk About Eric Sparrow.
This. Guy. Am I right? How did Tony Hawks Underground, of all games, wind up having such a memorable bad guy? Eric Sparrow is a little pissant from your neighborhood, one who’s allegedly your “best friend” who betrays you every step of the way through your journey on Tony Hawk’s Underground. At first, it’s subtle, he gets into trouble in a way that drags you in as well, causes problems that you inevitably have to solve, then it gets more overt. He “Forgets” to sign you up for the big competition in Tampa, and in the biggest twist of the game, he alters the footage of your big Hawaii trick to make it look like he pulled it off instead of you.
I sometimes wonder why Eric Sparrow, this petty little asshole you know from Jersey, is such an incredible bad guy, and I think I’ve finally figured out why. We all know him! Look into your past and I guarantee we all had that one “Eric Sparrow” friend at one point or another. Some dick we considered a “friend” who was always self serving first, screwed us over and always thought of us only in terms of what it could earn them. We all knew this dude, we all had to deal with this dude. Somehow, Tony Hawk’s Underground managed to distill all those people into this one hellishly annoying jersey teen with delusions of grandeur.

Let’s also maybe talk real quick about how there’s a KISS level in THUG? Why is there a KISS level in THUG? KISS sucks right? Did they pay Activision to have their own level? Wherein their extremely awkward looking NPC models play a concert? I have so many questions. All of them angry. I’ll take my answers off the air, thank you.

- Short post tonight! Not a lot of energy left in the tank, frankly. At least I can expose the crimes of a New Jersey suburbanite akin to some kind of skate demon.
- Excited for tomorrow! Grand plans of playing a lot of WoW and just enjoying a nice relaxing day. Knowing my grand plans i’ll probably do exactly 1/8th of the stuff I plan to do, but hey, a nice day off anyway right?
- Seriously, why is KISS in Tony Hawk? I’m completely at a loss. Did anybody in the early 2000′s think KISS was even cool at that point?
