A Traitor Among the Chiss - aka yet another missed opportunity
So like many other I’ve tried out the new swtor flashpoint yesterday. After bugging through the Story mode and without cutscenes and doing it again in Solo mode with cutscenes (yay for stealth classes) I can’t help but feel disappointed in the story. Don’t get me wrong, I think they could have done way, way worse. But so far the cons outweighed the pros for me:
The Design of Copero itself and it’s architecture is simply beautiful, I have to admit this. I would so love to have a stronghold there, partly in the snowy mountains and partly with the hot springs and river look. This just looks great.
The mechanics of the flashpoint mirror the whole update, as in some things are good some are just meh. Assuming the bugs concerning boss mechanics would actually not exist, most of those boss fights are not bad. Yes in Solo and Story mode it is boring as fuck, so turn up the heat and instead lower the HP, because it’s useless to make a boss unable to hurt you but have him fight for ten minutes just because of HP. (yes I’m exaggerating) Also the mass of stun mobs is a bit annoying, again mostly because it just costs time, it’s not threatening at all. The positive mechanics were the small riddles and the surrounding lore stuff they put into the flow of the flashpoint, for example the news reporter, telling us about things going on in the Republic.
Story: The biggest let-down of all for me. I love me some Saganu, (actually I hoped to be able to same sex flirt with him but okay) and the reintroduction to Raina was well done. However, everything about the whole reasoning for this flashpoint is just so so wrong.
The Ascendancy does not want to start a political war on House Inrokini and therefore does not dare to interfere?
Outsiders are not allowed on Chiss turf and one “human” representative is enough to negate that?
Since when do Chiss opt for a death sentence instead of something like exile?
One of my biggest pet peeves: What is up with those Chiss names? Li’Dali seriously? What was the working together with Zahn, a phone call to confirm that swtor Chiss still don’t have pupils or what?
I feel like I could go on, but it would me mostly the same. On the whole it was just sad to see all the potential for a great setup go to waste. And please the reveal of the organisation behind this must be a joke. Are you serious? Thos nutjobs?
Last but not least: At least we get nice decorations and the Chiss outfit. Minor plus but for decoration fetishists like me at least something.
