backstabbinspy:
“We shouldn’t have done this…”
Theburgermaster:
“You’re telling me…what were we thinking? This is bad…this is really bad…”
backstabbinspy:
Phoenix closed his eyes and put his hand to his forehead. “Well… at least you didn’t call out the wrong name in bed.“
I’m not sure if I want to hope I can hide this from Franziska or hope she doesn’t care…
“Besides, it’s my fault. I wasn’t thinking; I was missing my Maya… I’m sorry.”
Theburgermaster:
Maya pushed the covers aside, upon realizing that she was naked, she immediately pulled the covers back over her body.
“That’s what you’re worried about?” Maya screeched. “That I called out the right name?!” she was reeling. The events from the previous night came flooding back, and she realized just how far they had gone. “Nick, you just cheated on your wife…and with someone who in your world has been dead for the last ten years! I…I…I’m sorry Nick, I’m so sorry…”
backstabbinspy:
Phoenix sat up and sighed. The possible consequences were already running through his head. If his wife found out… there’d be hell to pay, to say the least. His poor girls would also be disappointed, and hurt in the wake of any fights. As for Maya, he wasn’t an expert on Kurain laws or culture, but if they found out the Master had sex out of wedlock… or worse, a child…. "What’s done is done. If anything, I should be sorry that I used you to fulfill some impossible fantasy of mine, and put your career at risk." He let out another sigh. "I guess we just go about our lives and hope we can fool a bunch of living lie detectors." Even as he joked, he inwardly winced. There really was no hiding this.
Theburgermaster:
Maya was hurt when Nick told her that he had really only gone through with this to live some fantasy. She felt used…sure, they had both been in a state of confusion the previous night. Catching up, telling each other how their world’s had turned out. It was all too much.
“Nick, I…I’m not even from this world. Your Maya has been dead for 10 years! I just…I shouldn’t have done this. We shouldn’t have even met again. I don’t know how it’s possible in the first place! I just…” she buried her face in her hands.
“At least you don’t have to worry about me getting pregnant or anything…conception is very unlikely for me…” she looked at Nick.
“I also don’t think you should hide this from your wife. I really don’t. You hide enough from her as it is…as long as this was a one time thing and it never happens again…”
Her words were hollow, she knew it. She looked at Nick for a moment. Even if he wasn’t her Nick he was still Nick. And she had to admit that she had really enjoyed the previous night.
No! Maya stop it! This Nick is married! You can’t do this to him! She thought frantically, trying to shoo any thoughts of this ever happening again. She got out of bed, pulling the duvet with her and searching the room for her clothes.
backstabbinspy:
Nick did his best to suppress a wince as Maya said they shouldn’t have met again. He knew what she meant, but it still stung.
“No, I’ll tell her. Even if she doesn’t have a lie-detecting power, she has a whip and a woman’s intuition, which I can tell you is far more effective.“ Even now, he was running through the possibilities of that unpleasant conversation. I wonder if Franzy is open to an open relationship…
No, bad train of thought, Phoenix! Bad! This Maya has a “Nick” of her own!
But they’re not in any official relationship ye- No! Stop! Bad!
“’One time thing’…you and I both know…much as I hate to admit it…that this won’t be the last time.”Please, say otherwise, Maya.
He was just glad Maya’‘s back was turned as he searched for his own clothes, both for his furious blush and… other reasons.
Theburgermaster:
Maya quickly found her undergarments and kimono, slipping them on. She found her sash by the door, and she could see her robe hanging over the back of a chair across the room. She didn’t recognize her surroundings, and by the look of things, they were in a motel. When had they ended up in a motel anyway?
“Yes, I’m sure her whip is far more effective…” she sighed, turning around to see Nick struggling with his clothes. She picked up the sash and walked over to him, glad that he at least had pants on. “Can you help me with this?” she asked softly. His comment about this not being a one time thing threw her off, and she turned quickly to face him.
Say it Maya. Say that this was a one time thing. Don’t fall into temptation again. You can do it. Say it. Come on.
“I…It…” Maya stammered. “It has to be, Nick!” she said. “We can’t do this again! We…we just can’t!”
Atta girl, Maya. Resist the temptation to jump his bones right here, right now.
She stepped away to tie the bow on her sash and walked across the room to get her robe. Her sandals were by the door, right next to Nick’s shoes.
backstabbinspy:
Phoenix helped Maya with her clothes, but nearly jumped at her outburst.
“…You’re right. We… This can’t happen again.” Why was he so reluctant to let this go? What was wrong with him?
While Maya finished dressing, he did the same, putting his shirt and suit back on. Straightening himself out, he let some of his inner monologue slip.
"Not like you and your Nick do anything…"He caught himself too late. He just hoped she didn’t hear him.
Theburgermaster:
“What was that?” Maya asked, having heard Nick say something about her Nick. “I heard you say something.” She put her hands on her hips. “If you’re going to say something, say it to my face, please.”
backstabbinspy:
Damn. She caught him. “I was just saying, you and your Phoenix don’t do anything, and…”
And you think that’s an excuse for you two to keep doing this, and you want to keep doing this because your Maya’s dead! Go on, finish the thought!
No, shame on him. He had a wife who loved him and whom he loved. He was not some hormonal teenage boy and Maya was not some desperate girl.
You know she wants it too….
All the more reason to not push it.
“I… just said something I shouldn’t have. Sorry.”
At least she can enjoy the comedy of errors that must be on my face.
Theburgermaster:
“Me and my Nick don’t do anything because we aren’t friends anymore!” Maya blurted out angrily. She covered her mouth, seeing as the person she had just shouted at was also Nick.
She looked at the floor, ashamed. Had it really come to this? Why was she even still here? She could have left at any time. But she was still here. From the sound of his voice, this Nick didn’t want her to go. Despite the consequences that could befall the both of them if they kept this up…
Maya and Nick were in the same boat, in a way. Both of them had lost the other in their own world, and they were turning to each other to make up for lost time. Was it right? Not at all. And the more Maya thought about it, the less she cared about those consequences.
She stared at Nick longingly for a moment before making the most stupid move she ever would in her life. She took one long stride towards him and kissed him with all she had. If he stopped her, she would know that this was over for real.
But I don’t want him to stop me!
backstabbinspy:
He didn’t see it coming. You wanted it so badly.
He tried to stop her. He really did. You pulled her in and kissed her back the moment your lips touched.
He accidentally fell onto the bed, pulling Maya with him. Have you no shame?
When they separated, he gazed into the eyes of the most beautiful woman he ever knew. What about your wife?
He had no right to this woman, who wasn’t even from his world. And yet you love her so anyway.
“…I have the night shift. I don’t have anywhere to be for the next few hours.” And you think your wife and kids won’t notice?
He looked at Maya with a strange mix of shame and longing. He had practiced lying to himself for years now. What was one more day?
Theburgermaster:
Maya fell onto the mattress, satisfied that Nick wanted this as much as she did. She kissed him passionately, running her fingers through his hair. When they separated to breathe, she saw the eyes of a man in love.
Maya, what are you doing? This is a married man! And he’s not just married to anyone—he’s married to Franziska Von Karma. How can you be the one to do this? After the advice you gave him?
“I…” Maya started. You’ve already crossed the line, Maya. what’s wrong with going a little farther? “”I’m not going anywhere…” she said, leaning back down and covering his mouth with hers.
backstabbinspy:
A deal with the devil himself would have made Phoenix less guilty. But right now, he didn’t care. Right now, he could tell himself that he had Maya again, that everything was going to be all right, that they could be happy together.
As they broke the kiss, he couldn’t help but notice how much he wanted to take his clothes off so soon after putting them back on….
Theburgermaster:
A guilty wave rushed over Maya as she realized what she was doing. Damn…why now? She had already decided that she didn’t care. But…that look in Nick’s eye. She had only seen a glint like that in one other man. Her late husband, Ryan. She knew what that shine meant.
“Nick…N-Nick…wait.” she said, pushing against his chest. “I changed my mind. I don’t want to do this. I can’t do this. I can see that look in your eye. I know that you think that if we do this, that we’ll end up together. but it just can’t happen. I’m not from your world! I…I’m sorry.” Maya stood, getting as far away from Nick as she could.
“I’m sorry…” she said again before slipping her sandals on and rushing out the door. If she stayed any longer, she would change her mind again.
backstabbinspy:
The whole scene happened so fast Phoenix barely had time to register what had happened. The sudden departure of Maya from his arms made it pretty clear, though. He sighed as he picked himself up off the bed. He stood for a moment, in a daze… or was it an eternity? He wasn’t sure. Slowly, he grabbed the keys to the room and made his way for the check-out desk.
It doesn’t hurt. She’s right. It was a mistake. It doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t hurt…
He dropped the keys off, and collected the deposit. He vaguely registered that it had been Maya who paid the deposit but… well, he’d pay her back the next time he saw her… if ever.
He had practiced lying to himself for years now. What was one more day?
It doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t hurt….
