It had started with a joke of a text, something about missing her and wishing they were drinking out of coconuts at a beachfront villa in Kauai. Henrik hadn’t expected flights to be so cheap, villas to be available, and definitely not Eittie to be available. With a quick flight to D.C. and a night at hers. He was exhausted, though he hadn’t expected to sleep it hadn’t settled on him until they were done showering and about to leave for the airport that this was their first real vacation together. Looking up at her as he heard her declaration that she was ready to go, Henri quickly forgot he was about to tell her that it was perfect timing because the Uber had just rolled up. Instead he was looking at her choice of twelve hour flight attire with a dopey smile. “Wow! You look beautiful.”
Pulling his bag over his shoulder he bent down to kiss her. “I loaded some movies on my phone in case we can’t sleep most of the flight.” Then he laughed, picking up her bag, and with a knowing smile looked down at her. There wasn’t a chance in Hell he’d be able to stay awake on the flight. “Ready for those coconuts?” Ruffling her hair, they headed to the airport, boarded their flight, and settled into their seats. The entire time Henri was goofing off, nudging Eittie, draping his arms over her and squishing her into his side, or sticking a finger into her mouth every time she tried to yawn. Like a puppy getting new batteries, he was back to his energetic self by the time they landed, pulling her toward the car rental joint the moment they had their luggage. “Did you get a chance to see the pictures of our villa? I hope you know the second I park this car and get our keys I’m throwing you over my shoulder and hauling these peaches into the Pacific.” With an echoing laugh the GPS led the way to their villa, his hand reaching for hers as the wind and music whipped around them.
