Helpful Lies
It had been a long time since she had been here, Grimmauld Place, it seemed like a lifetime ago. And in a way, it truly was. She could remember her mother and father making her come here with her sisters to visit her cousins, a time they often didn’t enjoy. The house was cramped and old, much less extravagant than Black Manor where she grew up, but they still came because her father said they had to. And when her father gave an order, there was no saying no allowed, or bad things happened.
She could remember being shouted at for running up the stairs when Sirius and Regulus would chase her and Andromeda up the stairs, Bellatrix following close behind them, threatening their lives if they were to ever lay a hand on her. She could remember her horrible aunt always saying she was too skinny every time she saw her or the disgusting house elf always prowling around in the corners. She remembered this place very well, and the memories it held inside.
She took her wand out of her sleeve and waved it in the air, watching as the buildings began to move apart. She had heard through the grape vine that this was where Harry Potter had gone to live after the mess Hogwarts had become, and it didn’t surprise her, Sirius had been his Godfather after all. She supposed he must feel some connection to the place somehow. She wondered briefly if he knew she was related to Sirius, if he had seen the family tree on the wall inside or if he had noticed that she and her son were on it.
When the building was finally in place she put her wand back inside her sleeve and looked either direction to make sure she wasn’t being watched before walking up to the front door and taking a deep breath. This was her one shot, her only shot at keeping her family together. She couldn’t mess this up. so she took a deep breath, and she knocked.
