closed starter for @popcultr ft. melina & utp!!

melina wasn't the type to engage, especially if the interaction wasn't something the opposite was interested in and her neighbor had never seemed much interested in her. the mysteriousness of the other kind of...made her nervous anyways and that was different for melina seeing as she faced most of life head on without a second thought. he had always been different for her though. she was enjoying her night off when a knock sounded on her door and she answered it, slowly letting the other woman in and getting to know her. it wasn't something she'd normally do but she seemed nice enough and she knew her neighbor would be home any minute. any minute turned into a couple of hours but once he was home, she didn't stay much longer and she was gone. melina began cleaning up the aftermath of the woman's company when she heard yet another knock on the door and she couldn't help but wonder if his mom had forgotten something. when she opened the door though, he wasn't what she expected. "uh...yes?"

WHO: melina edwards. nurse. 30-35. OPEN TO: f/m/nb 28+ PLOT: the two had a thing when they were younger but grew apart due to life getting busy and now they were conveniently set up on a blind date

they were the last person that melina expected to see and still, a smile appeared on her face. “you’re...not my blind date, are you?” she asked with a small laugh but it was clear that they were. the two had agreed on meeting at this specific bar and she knew she probably should’ve put two and two together sooner. “i can’t say i’m disappointed. how have you been? you look good.”

“oh my god, there’s no way!” melina exclaimed with a laugh, “i mean, you’re dead miles.” she told the man. it wasn’t that she thought he made it up all on his own, obviously there were some events that had led him up into this moment but she was so sure it wasn’t possible. “you’re overthinking it. if you’re dead, your shit’s dead so how in the world is she pregnant? no, the real question is how is it yours?”

melina leaned against the brick building, a puff of air escaping her lips. she wasn’t really one for crowds or parties or anything that included that many people. the girl was definitely feeling a little claustrophobic and she needed the fresh air. she closed her eyes and pushed her hair back behind her shoulder before turning to look at whoever came out and stood next to her. she offered them a polite smile and then looked away so that they didn’t think she was looking at them for too long. “this can’t be the only halloween party going around in tupelo but it sure does seem like it with the amount of people stuffed inside that bar, right?”

melina rarely got nights off but when she did, she made sure to enjoy them in any possible way that she could. tonight, she decided she was going out for a drink and she was going to see who she'd be lucky enough to meet, if anyone at all. she liked companionship but she wasn't a fan of commitment, which was why meeting someone at the bar was what she normally preferred. she was sitting on her own when she noticed another guy doing the same thing. she slipped off of her bar stool and approached him with her drink in her hand, plopping down in the seat next to him. "is this seat taken?" she asked, her hand holding out for him to shake. "i'm melina."

melina had never been so sure about anyone in her life and despite her parents not being her biggest fan, she couldn’t find it in herself to actually care. she assumed it wasn’t because of who the other was but it was because her parents preferred for her to be with a man and she wasn’t going to let them pull the two of them apart. she was sitting outside of the other’s house, waiting for her to get into the car so that she could talk to her. she was feeling impulsive and...well, she was in love. nervously, she checked her appearance in the mirror and then looked at the other woman as she climbed into the car and offered her a small smile. “hi.” she greeted and leaned forward to lay a kiss against her lips. “i want to talk to you about something...”

it was abnormal for melina to have regular patients considering she wasn’t an every day general nurse. she worked in the ER and she seemed to have these run ins with diesel more times than not. it wasn’t like she minded because if she were being honest, he was nice to look at and she typically didn’t mind the conversations with him either. as she walked into the room to patch him up yet again, her eyes landed on with an amused smile on her face. “we meet again. tell me something. you’re not getting into all this trouble to see me, are you? because if so, i could spare you the hospital bill and just give you my number.”
