scout knew this was what the two of them had been working toward but she never thought that it would be real. She was actually pregnant and with Luke’s baby, someone who she never thought she’d end up with. She’d enjoyed the way that the two of them had progressed and things seemed to be working as she hoped they would. She tried to wait until he got off work but instead, she asked him to meet her on his lunch break. She couldn’t help it. She had the positive pregnancy test tucked away in her purse and she smiled at him as he sat down at the table she’d gotten for the two of them. “Hey,” she started, “how’s work been?”

the last thing that scout expected was for her best friend to set her up with none other than the girl’s brother, someone she’d known for half her life. either way, she wasn’t sure if this was going to work out and she was actually a little nervous to see how this was going to go. the two of them were seated across from each other at the restaurant she’d picked and things seemed to be going pretty decent so far, “i have to admit,” she started with a light laugh, “this isn’t as awkward as i thought it would be.” she finished, offering him a smile as she took a bite of her food, “but i do have to ask...did your tell you what i’m looking for?”

scout looked between her door and the couch where the other laid. first off, she always made sure to lock her door and secondly, she had no idea who the hell this was or how they got in here. though, once she further investigated, she found that they climbed through her window. she slowly approached them, her bat in her hand and nudged them with it slightly. "hey," she started, "hey, you. wake up." she added, pushing a bit harder in order to get them up.

scout had gone to the appointment on her own today but only because luke couldn’t get out of work. she hadn’t let it bother her though and she insisted that the doctor put the gender of their baby in an envelope so that the two of them could find out what they were having together. she was lounging on the couch when she heard him come through the door, a small smile appearing on her face. “hey,” she chirped. “come here.” she added, patting the cushion next to her. “i have something i want to share with you.”

scout couldn’t believe how bad her blind date was the night before and she was still recovering when she walked into her office, a look of frustration covering her face. she assumed that, by now, she would have found someone to settle down with but it certainly wasn’t looking like that was going to happen any time soon. plopping down at her desk, her boss walked in and captured her attention, which hardly gave her any time to get settled at all. “your new client is here.” the man announced to which, she nodded. that’s when the same god awful blind date from the night before stepped around them to show their face and she couldn’t stop the scoff she let out. “this is scout harrison, she’ll be your new agent. sco-” and before her boss could finish she was headed toward the two and she wasted no time stomping the other’s foot with her own, “there’s no way in hell.”

her chocolate brown eyes widened the moment they landed on them. the other had broken her heart years ago but that didn’t make her feel any better about seeing them. scout had very much trusted them and went as far as to fall completely in love with them. that was, until the other disappeared out of nowhere. she didn’t know that they were connected to anyone in the wedding and she wished she would have. then maybe she would have made up an excuse as to why she couldn’t be in the wedding. “i’m surprised you committed to the wedding. you seem to have problems with committing to things. i know from experience.” and she knew they didn’t forget about what happened between them but she had to rub dirt in the wound the moment she saw them.

“-okay, okay. i get it! i’ll owe you one but can we talk about that later?” she asked as she clipped her earing in. one thing about scout? she loved the holidays and everything about them except her family’s questions on why she once again showed up dateless. she wasn’t going to let this year be the same which is why she asked the other to join her. she turned toward them with a smile on her face, her hands smoothing over her party dress. “now, be honest. do i look okay? if this is too much, i’ll change but like, i don’t know. i like the whole strapless moment and i haven’t had a reason to wear the dress yet.”

taking this step with him was truthfully something that she never expected to happen. luke was her best friend’s brother and someone she wouldn’t even think about making a move on but when she set them up and he agreed to do everything with her, there was no way she was going to say no. today they were making a step toward their future and they were touring houses. she stopped once the realtor gave them some privacy, her hand reaching for his. “so, what do you think? i honestly think the second house was my favorite but...i think i’d be happy in any of them.”
