He was well aware that nothing he could've said would have stopped the Seraphim from taking action but, he could have gone with her!

He could have assigned one of the angels to guard her, anything would have been better than to hide and cower while those around him did the dirty work.

This title, drenched in his father's blood and legacy, it dragged upon his head confirming every possible hesitation he had brought up to Sera upon being told he would be the new head of the Exorcist. His father had been misguided, but he was still capable of protecting their people.

Unlike him.

The fundraiser so far was just like all the rest of them – a flurry of photo-ops, schmoozing, and kindly insisting to journalists that their attention was better spent on charity than harassing him with their usual questions. Unlike his usual conferences, he was flooded with unfamiliar press from all angles, which was what made events like this so challenging. David had to make sure he was polite and charming the whole way through. He’s about to wave off another journalist when he realizes it’s not a journalist at all, but a slightly more welcome familiar face. 

“Abe,” he smiles, shaking the man’s hand in greeting. “God, it’s been ages.” Because the only time they spoke were times like this. “Actually, I had the privilege of finally meeting your better half at the last fundraiser. Fascinating guy.” There’s something difficult to place in his tone, a sentiment that tips oddly between approval and disapproval.
