Carver wasn’t supposed to be reading while on the clock, but, in his defense, the clock did say 10:00pm, and most students in the university library this time of night knew where they wanted to go and what they needed. They didn’t so much have to ask Carver for help.
But, sometimes they did, so he kept his art history book off to the side, scanning over images and reading analysis from a myriad of different alums from this university. He was a Literary Studies grad student, and he should be working more on his dissertation in his “spare moments,” but…he always was a bit shite with his work ethic.
Somebody walked up to his counter and he leaned up, as though he hadn’t been reading his book. “Hi there,” he said, low and polite to accommodate the hour, “ya findin’ everything all right?”
