She was lightning, there a minute and gone the next as feet slammed against the mahogany floor like thunder. Rain flooded her cheeks in sheets, free falling from her porcelain skin without so much as a second thought.
In a crash, they collided. Strong arms steadied her quaking form, shaking from the memory of it still. Cameron’s hand found her chin, destroying the desperate attempt to hide stormy eyes. She couldn’t be seen like this, to hear her name whispered in the hallways because of this.
The stillness of his ocean blue hues silenced the shuddering breaths that emanated from trembling lips. His words were uttered calmly; quietly, but the sound was garbled as if she were underwater. It was forced, but the right corner of rose red lips upturned in a half-hearted smirk broke her resolve, parting the ominous clouds overhead. With his arms around her, his gaze set upon her, she could feel the warmth of the sun peeking through the windows. Hand smoothing over her cheek, nimble fingertips swiped at the evidence of her composure lost.
A symphony of unsynchronized noise resounded in her throat. Swallowing hard, brown eyes tore from tranquil blue, his growing concern for her beginning to tear at the open seams of her already wounded heart. “I don’t know —” Trembling red lips confessed, chest heaving with the weight of each painful breath she drew in. Tears prickled in her eyes once again. “I don’t—don’t know what happened.”
