Devon’s arrival was difficult to miss, as was the immediately following flurry of questions he received about her. As always. Avoiding his ex-wife at public events was a skill he’d nearly gotten down to a science, but he hadn’t been expecting the presence of another Slater – and easily his least favorite one, at that. “Derek.” The surprise on his face is evident when he runs into his ex-brother-in-law, as is the momentary look of distress that twists his features. “You’re looking...” he eyes Derek’s appearance, which is unexpectedly put together. “Great,” he finishes, finally mustering up a smile. The two of them had a tumultuous relationship even when Dave and Devon’s relationship was at its best; David avoided him like the plague. “Heard you just got out.”

Derek gave a short shake of his head, watching Reid zip through a book at his desk, the soft rustle of pages reminding him of wind through trees. “Man, if I didn’t know for a fact you were actually reading that,” he said, giving a short laugh.
