“I don’t drink, but thank you anyway.”
The polite reply threw John through a loop for a second - after all, who came to a pub on New Year’s and didn’t drink? Then again what did it matter the other bloke wasn’t having a drink?
“Oh well, no use letting it go to waste.” John tossed back the second drink he’d bought for the handsome man. A curious thought bubbled to the surface of John’s mind, voicing it aloud without a care. “How is it a handsome chap such as yourself is on their lonesome on New Year’s Eve, hmm?”
Clark smiled at the compliment. Everyone had been so forthcoming with calling him handsome lately, and it caught him off guard coming from strangers. “Wife is working, covering some of the New Year’s festivities. For now, at least. I’ll join her for the big stuff, though. What about you? You look lonelier than I do, what’s got you down?”
