Jasper didn’t know what was going on, everything had been fine, he had been enjoying the fireworks and then everything had just changed for the worst. He had managed to get separated from Lyra and with the noise and the chaos around him, he couldn’t hear a thing. There was nothing but a static noise running through his eats and he was terrified. He didn’t even see the attack coming, sneaking up from behind him and being hit with blinding pain that made him crumple to the ground, trying to cover himself up as much as possible as people’s feet trampled past him. He doesn’t remember being hauled up or how long he had been lying there, he just remembers pain so bad that it felt like he couldn’t breathe.
He found himself now sat with healers, they were trying to talk to him, trying to explain what was happening but he couldn’t hear them, he couldn’t speak. He knew he was going into a state of shock, panic filling his chest from not being able to hear and not being able to focus on anything but the pain in his body. But that was when he saw her, a look of dread on her face and her cheeks stained with tears. “Lyra!” He shouted out, no idea if his voice was loud enough to carry across the crowds. “Lyra!” He tried again, trying to rise from his seat only to be pushed back down.
