Reminiscence

It was close to midnight when Hwi could finally close the store, after an abrupt presence of a large group of people in the weekday. It’s rare to happen, but once it does, they become the center of the attention with the number of orders the store had to receive. The head of the group was a regular who often visited the store monthly, but it seemed a good thing had happened at work that the whole company gathered for dinner. Hwi was not complaining about the fortune on his inflow, yet he had never spent so many energy at once to serve food for a dozen people who kept asking for more servings. It was tiring his joints, which was funny to him as if he was experiencing another humane soreness.
He bid goodbye to his workers, locking the front door and using the back door to go out. A long day of work deserved a long stroll to help Hwi relaxing on the rest of the night. Before leaving, Hwi didn’t forget to wrap a small can of pet food into his pocket, in case he met the cat at the certain alley, who often chilled in front of the convenient store at night. On his other hand, he carried an umbrella in case the weather decided to be playful during his walk.
It was a serene night, with street lights hanging up in the air to brighten the asphalt road. There was a sense of mild humidity in the air, but the breeze distracted Hwi from the fact that summer was ready to leave soon. He wished he could avoid the fact that the colder seasons would ready to knock on the door in the blink of an eye, As Hwi didn’t favor to wear another layer of clothes to keep himself warm. At least the store would still be busy when the winter was coming, he hoped.
The alley quickly opened up to the pavement with stores light peeking through the window. Hwi was close to his destination when he spotted the target right at the porch. “There you are,” he addressed the cat. Its ears twitched at Hwi’s presence. He reached into his pocket for the can of tuna, squatting down to the ground with the lure. “I hope you haven’t eaten anything. I brought you something special.”
