“Professor Slughorn has invited me to his Christmas party tonight. Do you think I should go? --Considering what has happened here?”
The bell jingled happily over the door as he pushed it open, meandering through the aisles as he waited for his friend to finish up with the actual customer she was helping. He whistle through his teeth after a moment, wondering what could possibly take so long to pick out a couple of herbs. Sirius picked a sprig of something colorful and leafy out of a bin on a shelf he passed by and tucked it behind his ear, impatient and not very good at hiding it.
Finally, the bell jingled again as they left and it was just him in the store, so he made his way to the register. “Lily.” He drew out the end of her name in a bit of a whine. “Close up, I’m bored.”

Normally, he'd have gone to Diagon Alley. He couldn't explain why, as it was always much busier which was usually enough to turn him away - but Severus Snape was a creature of habit and busy as they were, there was something comforting about the familiarity of the streets.
But this morning, he'd gotten up early to do some personal brewing before the shop opened, and found only when he went to add it that he was out of dandelion root. He could kick himself for choosing not to plant it in his personal garden and instead choosing something more exotic. With a sigh, he had headed to Dogweed and Deathcap to get it quickly, as his potion could only simmer for twenty minutes before going rancid. But now, as he stood frozen in the aisle, so close to what he had come for, he wished he'd just thrown the whole damn thing out. Because looking back at him from behind the register, was Lily.
