"Pour One Out for Threadgill's”
Threadgill’s | Libations and Literature
Threadgill’s closed in 2020, but you can read about its history by following this link.
Enjoyed it!
“This night’s theme ties into Texas Independence Day and readings, both serious and irreverent, on the subject of the hardscrabble life. Jesse Sublett is known for his hard-boiled crime novels and as one of Austin’s seminal punk innovators. Sublett will be reading from his recently published, 1960’s Austin Gangsters. W.K. Stratton will read from his award-winning biography, Floyd Patterson, which examines one of the most complex characters to come out of the boxing ring. Richard Zelade, will read from Guytown by Gaslight, an historical look at the sordid underbelly of post-Civil War Austin, with a focus on the now defunct red-light district. Eddie Wilson, the visionary that brought Austin Armadillo World Headquarters and Threadgill’s will read from his soon-to-be published book that focuses on his early days as a no-nonsense promoter, creative and back-room boxer. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the conclusion of the event.”
