“While I appreciate your eye for detail, I can’t sell that picture to you. Sorry.”

Normally Ira didn’t mind having a roommate. She and Rebekah got along great, in fact the other girl was probably her closest friend here. But sometimes it was difficult. Her own side of the room was very organized. If she hadn’t already been diagnosed with it, OCD kind of organized. Rebekah? Not so much. Usually it was fine. Ira could handle it. But it did make it hard to find her own things when she was searching for them and could only come up with Rebekah’s things. At the moment, she was trying to find one of her art history books. Those textbooks were usually so thick that it was strange that she couldn’t find it. Trying not to let herself get overwhelmed, she let out a shaky breath. “Rebekah, have you seen a book with the title Gateways to Art? It’s really large and has a Frida Kahlo picture on the cover? I was really hoping to start my reading early before we go to the dining hall.”

“I have something that you are going to want to see.” Ira doesn’t often come out from behind the counter while there are potential customers on the floor, but today has been a very slow day and this woman, Shay if she remembers correctly, is practically a regular. There is a new rotation that she’s going to be putting up in a little while, but there is a particular piece that Ira thinks will suit this woman’s tastes which is why she’s come up to speak with her.
“So you think you’re the only one struggling, when in fact, everyone goes through it.“ catia @ anyone
"I mean if you want to be rude about it, sure," Ira responded with a little chuckle. "But that isn't exactly what I'm going for. I mean, think about all the things we hear about art and artists. Everyone prefers to talk about how Van Gough struggled to sell his paintings, how he was tortured. We hear so much talk about the starving artist. The narrative of art is already filled with the need to struggle that by bringing my own to the forefront, not only can I tell a unique story, but it gives the people what they want. It might not be creating art purely for the act of it, which I know is a little distasteful, but I also prefer being able to eat."
