Salem Containment Chamber Design
Overview
The Salem Containment Chamber (SCC) is a cylindrical, heavily fortified structure designed to imprison Salem, neutralizing her magical abilities and immortality. It combines advanced Dust technology, Dr. Merlot’s Mutant Serum, and the Magic Necklace’s Grimm-control properties, with optional Relic of Creation integration for enhanced stability.
Physical Description
Shape and Size: A 10-foot-tall, 6-foot-wide cylindrical chamber with a seamless, reinforced exterior made of a Dust-infused alloy (primarily Hard-Light and Gravity Dust). The interior is lined with crystalline panels that emit a pulsating cyan and purple glow, reflecting active Hard-Light and Gravity Dust fields.
Exterior: Polished silver with intricate engravings of Remnant’s four kingdom symbols, symbolizing unity against Salem. Embedded Hard-Light Dust projectors create a shimmering, translucent shield around the chamber, preventing external interference. A central control panel with a blue jewel (mimicking the Magic Necklace) glows when active.
Interior: A spherical containment field suspends Salem in the center, surrounded by floating Gravity Dust crystals that maintain a zero-gravity environment. Vents along the walls release a mist of Merlot’s Mutant Serum, modified to suppress magical energy. The Magic Necklace is embedded in the chamber’s core, its blue jewel pulsating to sync with Salem’s Grimm essence.
Portability: The chamber is mounted on a levitating platform powered by Gravity Dust, allowing it to be moved if necessary (e.g., to a secure Vault or another realm like the Ever After). It weighs approximately 5 tons due to its dense Dust-infused materials.
Components and Mechanisms
Hard-Light Dust Containment Field:
Function: Creates a solid, light-based barrier to physically restrain Salem. The field is reinforced with multiple layers, each oscillating at different frequencies to counter magical disruptions.
Power Source: High-grade Hard-Light Dust, sourced from Atlas’s reserves before its destruction, stored in crystalline arrays within the chamber’s walls.
Mechanism: Projectors emit Hard-Light Dust in a lattice pattern, forming a spherical cage. The field adapts to Salem’s movements, tightening if she attempts to break free.
Gravity Dust Suspension System:
Function: Maintains Salem in a levitating state, preventing physical contact with the chamber’s walls to reduce escape attempts. It also counters her ability to manipulate her environment.
Power Source: Gravity Dust crystals, arranged in a circular pattern around the chamber’s interior, emit a constant gravitational field.
Mechanism: The crystals create a localized zero-gravity zone, with secondary fields to repel Salem if she tries to move. This mimics the levitation seen in Monstra or Atlas’s floating city.
Merlot’s Mutant Serum Mist:
Function: A modified version of the serum, designed to target Salem’s Grimm-like essence (as she is tied to the Grimm’s origins). It disrupts her magical aura, weakening her ability to cast spells or regenerate.
Power Source: Processed radioactive ooze, combined with stabilizing Fire and Lightning Dust to enhance its potency without explosive side effects.
Mechanism: Vents release a fine mist of the serum, which is inhaled or absorbed through Salem’s skin. The serum’s green crystalline properties interfere with her supernatural biology, potentially mimicking the green-eye mutation seen in Grimm to pacify her.
Magic Necklace Integration:
Function: Repurposes the necklace’s Grimm-control ability to suppress Salem’s command over Grimm and her magical aura. The necklace’s blue jewel syncs with her essence, creating a feedback loop that neutralizes her powers.
Power Source: The necklace itself, amplified by Aura-infused Dust (e.g., Electricity Dust) to extend its range and potency.
Mechanism: Embedded in the chamber’s core, the necklace emits a blue glow that pulses in sync with Salem’s presence. It projects a field that overrides her Grimm-control abilities, forcing her into a passive state.
Relic of Creation (Optional):
Function: If available, the Relic of Creation could be used to construct the chamber, ensuring it is indestructible and perfectly sealed. Alternatively, it could maintain the chamber’s integrity indefinitely, countering Salem’s attempts to erode it with magic.
Power Source: The Relic’s infinite creative energy, bypassing Dust’s atmospheric limitations.
Mechanism: Ambrosius, the spirit of the Relic, would be instructed to create a “perfect prison for an immortal being,” with specific parameters to avoid loopholes (e.g., no escape routes, self-sustaining power).
Operational Protocol
Activation: The chamber is activated by a team of Huntsmen with strong Aura, channeling their energy into the control panel’s blue jewel. This initializes the Hard-Light and Gravity Dust systems, followed by the serum mist and necklace field.
Containment Process:
Salem is lured or forced into the chamber (e.g., via a trap or coordinated attack).
The Hard-Light field seals the entrance, and Gravity Dust suspends her.
The serum mist is released, weakening her magical aura.
The Magic Necklace activates, suppressing her Grimm control and magical abilities.
If using the Relic, Ambrosius ensures the chamber remains active without external power.
Monitoring: The chamber includes holographic displays (powered by Hard-Light Dust) showing Salem’s status, magical activity, and containment integrity. Huntsmen monitor it remotely to avoid direct exposure.
Transport: If relocation is needed (e.g., to the Ever After), the chamber’s Gravity Dust platform allows movement, but it cannot function outside Remnant’s atmosphere unless the Relic is used.
Challenges and Limitations
Salem’s Magic: Her true magic surpasses Aura-based systems, potentially destabilizing the Hard-Light field or resisting the serum’s effects. The necklace’s control may be incomplete against her unique Grimm essence.
Serum Stability: The modified serum’s long-term effects on an immortal being are unknown. Overuse could lead to unpredictable mutations or resistance.
Dust Supply: Hard-Light and Gravity Dust are rare, and the chamber requires significant reserves. Post-Atlas destruction, sourcing enough Dust is challenging.
Relic Dependency: Without the Relic, the chamber relies on Dust, which cannot function off-world, limiting transport options to realms like the Ever After.
Ethical Concerns: Using Merlot’s serum raises ethical questions, given its ties to unethical experiments. The necklace’s history of causing chaos (e.g., Kuchinashi on Fire) also poses risks.
Visual Design Notes
The chamber’s exterior glows with cyan and purple hues, reflecting Hard-Light and Gravity Dust. The blue jewel at the control panel pulses rhythmically, mimicking a heartbeat to indicate active containment.
The interior’s crystalline panels shimmer with Dust energy, creating an eerie, otherworldly ambiance. The serum mist adds a faint green glow, contrasting with the blue necklace jewel.
Engravings and Dust conduits are arranged in a spiral pattern, symbolizing containment and control, inspired by ancient Remnant runes.
