Libby: so uh, about last night...
Libby: I just want you to know that I meant what I said. But I understand if like, you've changed your mind or something idk
Libby: I just. You're my best friend, mer. I'm so scared I messed that up
“i don’t feel well,” libby said, breaking the kiss as she fell back on the other’s bed. the room was spinning. or maybe just the bed. or was it just her? “i’ve never been drunk before. i don’t think i like vodka very much.”
libby sat in the passenger seat as she had done a million times, her head resting against the window as she looked out, studying everything they passed. they’d passed her old elementary school, the church she’d gone to her whole life, just as they’d done a thousand times. but this time was different, because they weren’t going to pass it all again on the way home. there was no going home; this was all about leaving. and her hands shook, her heart pounding in her chest as they officially left the city she’d spent her whole life trapped in. “fuck,” libby breathed out softly, gaze steadily on the road for a moment before turning to look at her companion in the drivers seat. “this is real. oh my god.”
“did you mean it?” libby spoke softly, and while her question was directed at the boy sitting beside her, she refused to look up at him. her eyes were on her lap, where her hand fidgeted with a random straw wrapper she’d found in his car. he was the only person libby had known at the party besides her date, and while she hadn’t gone with him, she was happy to be leaving with him. she couldn’t tell if he simply wouldn’t look at her at all, or if he was just trying to pay attention to the road as he drove, but the heavy silence in the car made her think it was the first. “when you said he didn’t deserve me, that i deserved better than that, better than him, did you mean it?”
