raised as a samurai, jin is very stoic, reserved, and calm, having been taught at a young age how to master his emotions. and despite being the son of a lord and nephew/ward of a jito, he is extremely humble and kind, concerned with the inhabitants of tsushima above all else. he was a firm believer of the samurai code and fighting with honor until they were massacred, and he nearly died. following that, he slowly began to realize he would have to bend his code to save his home and people from the mongols. he became the ghost, while also becoming more open with his emotions. despite becoming more pragmatic and ruthless while fighting, he has always held a strong moral compass.
memories of their real life:
he grew up in the ruling class of samurai, raised in a strict, disciplined environment, trained by his father, uncle, to become a samurai.
his mother died of an illness when he was a child, something he took very hard.
a few years later, his father was murdered in front of him. jin hid out of fear, an action that would haunt him for the rest of his life.
following his father's death, he was taken in by his uncle, who became his only surviving family. he was both a mentor and parental figure, their bond becoming that of a father and son.
years later, the mongols launched an invasion of tsushima.
jin was one of eighty samurai who were sent in a desperate, suicidal attack against the mongols at komoda beach, hoping to slow the invasion before they reach the mainland. during the battle, he was grievously wounded and left for dead, while his uncle was captured and the rest of the samurai were killed.
he was saved by a thief named yuna, who also “created” the ghost myth and taught him how to fight and act like a thief.
with her and a few others help, jin was able to save him uncle and defeat the invaders.
however, straying from the samurai code resulted in him being labeled a traitor, the shogun dissolving his family’s clan, and ordering his uncle to kill him.
jin and his uncle reluctantly duel each other, with jin defeating him. however, he completely abandons his samurai ways and spares his uncle rather than honoring his request for a proper samurai death.
