When: Morning of 24th June 1984, prior to the teams leaving

Dorcas was ready, and she was wanting to go now. Nothing fuelled her more than muggleborns at risk. Of course, a lot of that came from being a muggleborn herself. But Dorcas could remember being exactly where these four children were. No idea about the world they were about to enter in, feeling like they were the odd one out. And she could remember coming into the wizarding world, and suddenly everything making sense. These four children needed to experience that, and Dorcas would do anything to make sure that happened. So, she was feeling ready to go. No death eater was going to get Sidney. She was going to make sure of that.

After apparating to the entry room, Dorcas had made her way to the room in the estate that they’d said they would all meet up in. She had to admit to herself that she was feeling a little nervous. This was almost a make it or break it for her. She didn’t know if she could handle losing anymore muggleborns, not after Mary. The angst she was feeling, just made her want to go and get out there.

But a las. For now she had to wait for the rest of her team to arrive.

She’s standing on the door step, and despite a heart that hasn’t beat in over a DECADE, she feels herself on edge. A fake thrum beats its way down to her finger tips, and she’s thinking about turning and running right then and there.

This journey has taken time. She’s had flickers of this coven family for so long. Faces were always blurred, and she was never sucked in for long, but she could feel the sense of community and LOVE even with the vague depictions she had. Living amongst each other, no animosity between them as can happen with clusters of vampires. It was a miracle – and once she had a flicker of warm arms wrapping around her in an embrace, giving her a yearning for familial familiarity, she become almost OBSESSED.

Her poor Jasper – almost neglected on her quest, he was the most cautious about joining a group, but he had problems saying no to her. They focused in on these flickers for years, trying to pinpoint places. Alaska moved south bound back into the main United States. New Hampshire, turns into New York after only a few short months. She finds them in Buffalo. 

She knocks so hesitantly on the door. Lightly, but with their super senses, she knows they’ve heard it. She only manages twice, before she rocks back on her heels, into the solid form of her mate. “–I don’t think I can do this. What if they don’t want us?” 

Rejection has become her biggest fear. From a family she can’t remember, the only thing solid she has is Jasper. She’s come to rely so heavily on this group of vampires here, the idea of being turned away… Had her frozen to the front step.

She doesn’t think she’s ever SEEN her brother like this before -- about to flee and run away from his problems. He leaves school before she has a chance to talk to him, and it’s a hard race back to their home in the woods.

She takes Rosalie’s keys -- promises to be back before the final bell, and ends up just behind him, tearing into the driveway. 

“EDWARD --” She speaks, although she doesn’t need to. She can hear his frantic movements around the house. “Edward. Stop for a second.”

There’s a brief moment - a stutter, a flutter in her chest. And she for a second thinks her heart might be BEATING again. There’s a thrum of something in her ears, finger plucking nervously at the hem of her dress, and she thinks she might even throw up. She’s never been this nervous. 

R e j e c t i o n -- What would she do if she was turned away? It seems like the last several years had all led to this specific moment. Flashes and flickers in her mind. All faceless, but they were a family. Traveling together through America, and there was a screaming inside of her soul that told her she should be part of this. Dragged her mate through the east coast to the west coast, up into Alaska, she was chasing a fantasy she wasn’t even sure could be real. 

She finds them in New York, not too far from Buffalo. She heard the name in one of her flashes three months ago  ‘C U L L E N’.  And when she and Jasper arrived, it only took a day or two of asking around before she had an address. 

Her chase was over, she was here. But why was she so scared? The idea of a family. With no memories of her old one, she shouldn’t miss an idea she couldn’t conceive, but God above did she want one. 

She knows they’re aware of her by the time she pulls into the drive way. As she steps up to the looming gate, and approaches the front door. 

Her eyes are a bright golden hue. Freshly fed, she already looks like one of them. Her mate’s are still murky, not used to this new, strange diet, but he’s willing. And she wants to belong. 

Three quick, little knocks, and she steps back from the door, sucking in a breath. 

“--Mr. Cullen”

RAIN. she thinks she might have liked the rain once upon of time. 

But now all she feels is a sort of numbness when she tries to thinks about the time she had last seen rain. Before her eyes turned colors and her body turned to stone. People didn’t just...come to life in their young adult years. There was a progression. She knew this. And yet.. it was as if she was swept clean overnight.

She has what she calls ‘flickers’, and a part of her hopes they’re a MEMORY. Someone tall, blonde. His face is a blur, and despite the paleness of his skin, she doesn’t feel fear. 

FLASH! she’s pulled closer to a chest, and her body melts, relaxes for the first time. she feels butterflies.

Certain that he was to be her key to unlock the dam, the east calls to her. She flees on foot, in stolen too-big trousers and blouse, a tattered night gown left to the wind ( bearing a pin reading m.a brandon ). 

Faster, faster, faster bare feet hitting muddy ground as she flees through heavy forestry. 

flash! the faceless man opens a door for her. she doesn’t think she’s ever been shown such a courtesy. 

The flashes are weak and only come in every month or so, and she tries to force them more. Instead of flashes she gets migraines so intense she has to lay down. She has been running for months. Zig zags through territories and forests, her eyes have taken on an unusual hint of gold, mixed with red they look more muddy than mystic.

She’s calling it quits. Her body no longer pulls her in a direction. Bones ache from their exhaustion. There’s a black and white tile pattern in the diner she sits at, and the burned coffee steaming in front of her masks the smell of the bodies around her. She wishes this too feels normalized, but it feels forced. 

‘are you waiting for someone, sweetheart?’

She pretends the waitress could be her mother. Chocolatey skin like her own, kind eyes with wrinkles in the corners, she’s kept her cup full all evening and  wishes she could repay her more than just the two nickels she has in her pocket.
