My first night in Shanghai, you would have thought okay, let’s find some Shanghainese food. To be honest, Shanghainese cuisine doesn’t quite sit well with me so instead, I explored the city’s most modern epicurean reputation. Booked a table at Mercato at Three on the Bund using Chope (which has a version for Shanghai!) and made my way to Three on the Bund which host a number of international restaurants. Three on the Bund is one of many preserved heritage building on the Bund and is formerly the Union Building. Mercato Shanghai is Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s signature restaurant, inspired by his popular ABC Kitchen in New York. I’m a creature of comfort and after a long flight, just crave for good pizza and pasta and certainly don’t disappoint. The pizza has a New York flavour to it and the pasta is amazingly good. Most of all the ambience if definitely worth the price of admission, with a window seat literally putting you on the edge of the Bund.
